ENGLISH – I know Maria Beauchamp for three years now but it seem like forever and I don’t think I have ever seen her sit around doing nothing. Maria suffers from Lupus and I never heard her say not once”I can’t do this because of my illness” instead she was always pushing and always doing. Thats one of the things I loved about her. During the months of getting to know Maria I started to see her work on her project and then I started to help her execute them and at the same time she was teaching me every step of the way. I can say she is a go getter always flying to do her best. Her passion was always to give to the community especially the youth and always thought of herself last.
Maria managed to take care of her family, Prestige Empire family, her boutique, and always managed to have time for her close friends. She was always working on her big events even when her lupus wanted to come out and play she never complain instead she would take a nap get up and continue to work in her office for long hours.
Long nights traveling from state to state nothing was stopping her. The biggest event was putting Delaware Fashion week together last year and for it to be the first time ever she made history and I was able to stand by her side while she did it. Proud of her I am. In September of 2014 Maria was diagnosed with another illness called Dystonia a involuntary movement disorder that put us all in a very emotional state of mind. I can say it has put a weight on many of us not knowing what was happening to her and it was more scarier when the doctors themselves couldn’t give us answers.
We had moments where we thought we were going to lose her several times and it became very frightening and I became very emotional but never left her side knowing that I couldn’t ease her pain Instead I became one of her care givers. Always said I was with you at you best I will be present at your worst until u get better. Eleven month ago was when Maria was diagnosed with Dystonia and til this day she still fights to breathe, she fights to walk, she fights to keep going but she still manages to get her team to put together once again Delaware Fashion week Season 2.
This year we had more member to take her vision and make it happen while she was getting treatment in Puerto Rico. Maria visited many time the hospital but that didn’t stop her from telling us what she wanted done and how. During fashion week it was a surprise that Maria was able to attend her show and to see her vision with her own two eyes. Having her there made us complete and ready to make history once again in Delaware which we did. When we talk about hero and we talk about a fighter about an angel I say you can find a picture of my dear friend Maria posted next to those word.
She fights this battle call Dystonia and Lupus but that doesn’t stop her from from pushing instead she became a inspiration and motivation, very humble, big hearted to many in the community and still manage to keep giving. I always say you might have the illness but the illness doesn’t have you! Everyday is a blessing and I thank god for keeping her with us. I say we still have many projects that needs to be done but also live life to the fullest to leave footprints behind not just for us but for her son Miguel Burgos Beauchamp. If you never met Maria I dare you to read her story and understand her fight in finding a cure and how she battles in her everyday life keep living. ESPAÑOL – Conozco a Maria Beauchamp desde hace tres años, pero me parece que es desde hace una eternidad y no creo que nunca la haya visto sentarse sin hacer nada. María sufre de lupus y nunca la he oído decir: “No puedo hacer ésto debido a mi enfermedad”, en su lugar ella estaba siempre empujando y haciendo algo. Esa es una de las cosas que me encantaron de ella.
En los meses que conocí a María empecé a ver su trabajo en su proyecto y más tarde empecé a ayudarla a ejecutarlo y, al mismo tiempo ella me enseñaba en cada paso del camino. Puedo decir que ella es una conseguido siempre volando a hacerlo lo mejor posible. Su pasión siempre fue a dar a la comunidad, especialmente a los jóvenes, y siempre quedándose ella en último lugar. María logró cuidar a su familia, la familia Prestige Empire, su boutique, y siempre se las arreglaba para tener tiempo para sus amigos cercanos. Ella siempre estaba trabajando en sus grandes eventos, incluso cuando su lupus se manifestaba, ella nunca se quejó y en su lugar ella se tomaba una siesta, se levantaba y seguía trabajando en su oficina durante horas. Ella no paraba, noches largas viajando de un estado a otro.
Ella estaba organizando el año pasado el evento de moda más grande “Delaware Fashion Week” organizado por primera vez y que hizo historia y yo estuve a su lado mientras lo hizo. Orgullosa de ella. En septiembre de 2014 María fue diagnosticada con otra enfermedad llamada distonía, un trastorno del movimiento, que provoca espasmos involuntarios y que nos pone a todos en un estado muy emotivo. Ha supuesto para muchos de nosotros un peso al no saber qué le ocurría y era más aterrador cuando ni siquiera los médicos podían darnos respuestas.
Tuvimos momentos en los que pensábamos que íbamos a perderla y se convirtió en aterrador y fue muy emotivo, pero nunca la dejamos de lado sabiendo que no podía aliviar su dolor. En su lugar, me convertí en uno de sus cuidadores. Siempre dije que estaría contigo en lo mejor y estará presente ya sea lo mejor o lo peor hasta que estés bien.
Hace once meses María fue diagnosticada con distonía y hasta hoy todavía lucha por respirar, por caminar, para seguir adelante, pero se las arregló para reunir nuevamente a su equipo y montar Delaware Fashion Week Temporada 2. Este año tuvimos más participantes que tomaron su visión e hicieron que sucediese mientras ella estaba recibiendo tratamiento en Puerto Rico. Maria tuvo que ir muchas veces al hospital, pero éso no le impidió decirnos lo que quería hacer y cómo hacerlo.
Fue una sorpresa que María pudiese asistir al espectáculo de la Semana de la Moda y ver con sus propios ojos lo que ella ideó. Tenerla allí nos hizo estar listos para hacer historia en Delaware, una vez más. Cuando hablamos de héroes y hablamos de luchadores digo que se puede encontrar un ángel mirando la foto de mi querida amiga María publicada junto a esas palabras. Ella combate esta batalla llamada distonía y lupus, pero éso no la impide empujar, convertirse en inspiración y motivación, es muy humilde, de gran corazón para muchos en la comunidad y aún así es capaz de dar. Yo siempre digo que puedes tener la enfermedad, pero la enfermedad ¡no te tiene! Cada día es una bendición y agradezco a Dios por mantenerla con nosotros.
Tenemos muchos proyectos por hacer, pero también vivimos la vida al máximo para dejar huellas detrás no sólo para nosotros sino para su hijo Miguel Burgos Beauchamp. Si nunca conociste a María me atrevo a decirte que leas su historia y comprendas su lucha por buscar una cura y cómo ella lucha en su vida cotidiana por seguir viviendo. Tengo la suerte de tenerla en mi vida y decir que fue uno de los mejores caminos que tomé en la vida. Me atrevo a amar. Me atrevo a tomar este viaje con ella y permanecer a su lado.
