The Indian River School District invites parents to attend a special information session about the new Spanish immersion program to be offered at John M. Clayton Elementary School beginning in September 2012.
The session will be held at John M. Clayton Elementary School, 252 Clayton Ave. in Frankford, on Tuesday, May 8 from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
As part of Gov. Jack Markell’s World Language Expansion Initiative, the immersion program allows kindergarten students to spend a half day learning in English and the other half learning in Spanish. The program gives young learners the opportunity to acquire a second language in a developmentally-appropriate format.
This is not an English Language Learners program, but a regular kindergarten class taught in two languages.
Only kindergarten students will be accepted into the immersion program for 2012-2013. Limited space is available. Parents from outside the John M. Clayton attendance area may pursue school choice options to enroll their children in the program. Parents must submit a school choice application by May 16.
