The USA is known as a country that promotes tolerance. Yet true relationships between diverse groups and peace seem to elude us. Could it be that tolerance has come to mean ‘put up’ with people we rather not engage? Could it be that under the guise of tolerance hides fear?
Fear keeps many from realizing their divine purpose. The Bible states that God made ‘of one blood all nations of the earth’. It also states that God determined the times set for us and the exact places where we should live. Though each cultural group (nations, tribes and people) has a reason for being and a purpose to fulfill, I believe God purposely gathered people from every corner of the world to the USA that we might learn to live truly as ‘One Nation under God.’ The goal was to learn forbearance and charity, and to learn from the heritage of each group. However our multi-cultural legacy was not to take precedence over our common humanity.
It is because some disregard our common humanity that there is separation and lack connection with God and one another. We failed to recognize that our work in ‘one accord’ was to produce a micro version of the Kingdom of God here in the USA. Of course, that would not occur until we would open the door to the deepest part of our hearts to connect to God. Christ is the Master Key to that door and the uniting force of all.
True tolerance is possible when we realize that nothing is insignificant. A moment before the crucifixion, the soldiers removed Jesus’ outside garments (clothing that identified the man Jesus as a Jew). Underneath, he had a robe without seams that the soldiers decided not to tear because it was woven from the top in one piece.
The significance of that inner seamless robe is that it represents the different nations, tribes, people and tongues. Just as Jesus was there naked, we too are in our naked humanity connected to God through love and peace. ‘Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you’.
Awake the seed of Christ, innate in every heart; it guides us to compassionate action. Let love be without partiality, without hypocrisy but gentle full of mercy and good fruit. Let there, be peace on earth and let us sing the happy chorus: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests”
Los Estados Unidos son conocidos como un pais que promueve la tolerancia. No obstante, las relaciones entre los diversos grupos y la paz parecen escapar. ¿Podría ser que la tolerancia ha venido a significar ‘el aguantar’ a la gente que preferiríamos no entretener? ¿Será que bajo el disfraz de la tolerancia se enconde el miedo?
El miedo impide a muchos el comprender su propósito divino. La Biblia dice que Dios hizo ‘de una sola sangre todas las naciones de la tierra. También expresa que Dios determinó los tiempos para nosotros y el lugar preciso donde viviríamos. A pesar de que cada grupo cultural (las naciones, las tribus, y la gente) tiene su razón de ser y un propósito que cumplir, creo que Dios recogió y trajo a los Estados Unidos gente de cada esquina del mundo para que aprendiéramos a vivir verdaderamente como ‘Una nación regida por Dios.’ La meta, que aprendiéramos a tener paciencia y caridad unos con los otros al mismo tiempo que aprendiéramos el legado de cada grupo. Pero no para que el legado multi-cultural tuviera precedencia sobre nuestra humanidad en común.
Algunos no consideran nuestra humanidad en común y es la razón de que haya separación y falta de conexión entre Dios y nuestros semejantes. Fallamos porque no reconocemos que el trabajo que en unión habría de producir una versión micro del Reino de Dios aquí en los Estados Unidos. Claro, ésto no ocurriría hasta que abriéramos la puerta de la parte más profunda de nuestros corazones para conectarnos a Dios. Cristo es la llave maestra que abre esa puerta y la fuerza que une todo.
La verdadera tolerancia es posible cuando nos damos cuenta de que nada es insignificante. Un momento antes de la crucifixión, los soldados removieron las prendas de vestir de Jesús (la ropa que identificaba al hombre Jesús como un judío). Debajo, tenía una túnica sin costura que los soldados decidieron no dividir porque era de un sólo tejido de arriba a abajo.
El significado de esa túnica interior es que representa a las diferentes naciones, tribus, pueblos y lenguas. Así como Jesús estuvo desnudo allí, nosotros también estamos desnudos en nuestra humanidad conectados a Dios a través del amor y la paz. Levántate, resplandece; porque ha venido tu luz, y la gloria de Jehová ha nacido sobre tí.
Despierta la semilla de Cristo, innata en todo corazón; nos guía hacia la acción compasiva. Que sea el amor sin incertidumbre, sin hipocresía más bien lleno de amabilidad, micericordia y buenos frutos. Que haya paz en la tierra y cantemos juntos el coro alegre: ¡Gloria a Dios en las alturas, y en la tierra paz, buena voluntad para con los hombres!
