Following the tradition President Obama is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day by welcoming the prime minister of Ireland in the Oval Office.
This evening, the President and the First Lady will host a St. Patrick’s Day reception in the East Room of the White House.
But what is the meaning of St. Patrick’s Day? Saint Patrick’s Day is a yearly holiday celebrated on 17 March. Saint Patrick is the most commonly recognized of the patron saints of Ireland. This holiday has gradually become not only a Catholic celebration but a secular celebration of Ireland’s culture.
