ENGLISH – Senate Bill 59 the Driving Privilege Cards (DPC) is Delaware Law, and was signed June 30, 2015, but does not become effective until January 1, 2016. The immigrant community has six months to prepare and be ready to apply on January 1st 2016, when the law will go into effect.
Be Aware: There are individuals giving incorrect information trying to benefit from the new law. They are offering services and charging high fees for things that are either not needed or will be offered FREE once the process is established. Beware of this fraudulent activity and avoid participating.
What you can do to prepare for January 1:

2. Who should you contact: Partnering organizations, credible and trustworthy, which were part of the DPC process, will offer Free Drivers Education classes, which are being developed now. For more information about the classes or if you have any questions regarding the free drivers educational classes, please contact:

· La Esperanza Community Center 302-854-9262;
· Latin American Community Center (LACC) 302-655-7338.
3. Start to gather the paperwork required: The law stated that the people who are eligible are those who have resided and have paid taxes, for two years, in Delaware. DACA will also educate you on this requirements, as well as questions on taxes.
4. Wait until September for more information. The Division of Motor Vehicles will provide details on the process to take the written, road and eye tests, fees, and fingerprints. Once the policy is in place, it will be shared with the community by the Hispanic media and the Delaware Hispanic Commission web site http://hispanic.delaware.gov
This is what you should NOT DO:
1. Do not participate on con artist scams. As an example, just as it was the case in Maryland, scam artist took advantage of the immigrant population promising to provide documentation and aiding on applying for driving cards in exchange of a very stiff fee. As an example, Father Jonny, from St. Michael Catholic Church in Georgetown, tells that Maryland DMV received 80 applications that had the same address. Needless to say, those applicants were denied their request. The immigrant community will defeat the purpose of this legislation if they engage in this practice. Please, do not trust those individuals.
2. Do not pay for Driving Education Classes. The classes will be free to the public and may be available in churches. Have the leader of the church contact DACA to request free driving education classes. Use the information provided above.

ESPAÑOL – La ley del Senado 59 de Permisos Privilegiados de Conducir (DPC en inglés) es Ley en Delaware, y se firmó el 30 de junio 2015, pero no se hace efectiva sino hasta el 1 de enero del 2016. La comunidad inmigrante tiene seis meses para prepararse y estar lista para solicitar el Permiso el 1 de enero 2016 , cuando la ley entrará en vigencia.
La comunidad necesita estar consciente de esto: Ha llegado a nuestro conocimiento que unas personas han empezado a estafar a la comunidad dando información incorrecta, para beneficiarse con malicia de la nueva ley. Estas personas están ofreciendo servicios y cobrando altas tarifas por aspectos que, o bien no son necesarios, o se ofrecerán GRATIS una vez establecido el proceso. Tenga cuidado con esta actividad fraudulenta y evite participar en ella.
Lo que usted puede hacer para prepararse para el 1 de enero:
