UPDATE: On September 4, 2009 around 11:30am Christopher Reeves, who's accused of gunning down Patrolman Chad Spicer turns himself into Georgetown Police Department. Twenty-two-year-old Derrick J. Powell of Cumberland, Md. is charged with first-degree murder, three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, second-degree burglary, first-degree reckless endangering and resisting arrest. He is being held in the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on $97,000 cash-only bail. A second officer was also wounded. After an initial shooting at a McDonald's restaurant on Rt. 113, three possible suspects were spotted a few blocks west. When police conducted a traffic stop, two officers were shot. After a car chase, they flee on foot. Police cordoned off the area nearby the Perdue plant, where they were last seen. At the time of this report, two of the suspects may have been captured and a third one is still at large, while police is conducting a house to house search, backed by air support. The victims were transported to Beebe Medical Center. One may have been redirected to Christiana hospital in serious but stable condition. Police from several towns and the state police are assisting the local department in the search. |
