          <description><![CDATA[ DOVER – Joined by legislators and community advocates on the steps inside Legislative Hall, Governor Jack Markell signed legislation to allow same-sex couples to marry, making Delaware the 11th state in the country to legalize same-sex marriage.

          <description><![CDATA[ DOVER – Gun owners would have to report missing or stolen weapons to police within a week under legislation that cleared the Senate Thursday.

On a 11-10 vote, lawmakers sent Senate Majority Whip Margaret Rose Henry’s measure to the House for consideration. Under the bill, the seven-day clock on reporting the missing or stolen firearm would start running when a gun owner discovers the weapons are missing.

“A lot of the time a straw purchaser will legally buy a gun and sell it to a criminal,” Henry said. “But when that gun is used in a crime, the purchaser will sometimes say their weapon]]></description>

          <description><![CDATA[ DOVER, Del. (AP)- A Delaware lawmaker is trying again to pass legislation barring the use of handheld cell phones while driving.<p><p>Rep. Joe Miro said he is not interested in a complete ban on using phones while driving, but he says a handsfree device should be a requirement.<p><p>The Pike Creek Republican is proposing a $50 fine for drivers who send text messages or e-mails, or speak on a handheld cell while driving.<p><p>State Police claim cell phone use led to 214 crashes in 2007, with that number climbing to 252 last year.]]></description>

          <description><![CDATA[ August 7, 2008, Dover -- If a person’s caught and convicted to stalking, they could be facing up to a year in prison under a major revision to the state’s 1993 stalking and harassment law.
<p><p>At a signing ceremony for a trio of bills aimed at combating domestic violence, Gov. Ruth Ann Minner said she thinks the package will make Delawareans safer.
<p><p>“This will protect our residents from harassment and intimidation,” Minner said. “There’s no excuse now for anyone to say: ‘You can’t be prosecuted.’ They can prosecute anyone for these offenses now.”
