I-495 & I-95 interstate bridge maintenance project will require nighttime closures funded by American Recovery & Reinvestment Act
Wilmington, DE – The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces that the Interstate Bridge Maintenance project will begin on Wednesday, June 15.
I-495 southbound on Bridge 1-702 between Exit 6/Naamans Road and Exit 5/Philadelphia Pike will be CLOSED at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15 for the placement of the barrier wall. Detour signage will be posted to alert motorists. At 5 a.m. on Thursday, June 16, a single lane of traffic will be open to motorists, while the right lane will remain closed for the next several months. Microsurfacing will require lane closures in Kent & Sussex counties
Dover, DE - As part of the Delaware Department of Transportation’s (DelDOT) pavement and rehabilitation program, each year a number of roads are selected for a process called microsurfacing.
The contractor, Asphalt Paving Systems Inc., will be placing notices on the doors of the affected residences and businesses to advise them of the dates of lane closures. The work will begin on Monday, June 13 and end on Friday, July 15, pending weather. Lane closures will occur from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Guardrail Project Will Require Lane Restrictions in Sussex County
Seaford–The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces that M. L. Ruberton Construction and Safety, Inc., will be removing and replacing guardrails across Sussex County. During these safety improvements, motorists will encounter intermittent lane restrictions beginning on Monday, March 28 and ending on Friday, April 29, pending weather. The work schedule will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.

DELDOT - growing in the wrong places?
Over the past five fiscal years the operating budget of the Delaware Department of Transportation (DELDOT) has grown 18% while inflation rose 7%. So, DELDOT has been living large, yet the winners and losers inside the Department are curious.
The big winner with a 45% budget increase over the five years is the Motor Vehicles administration. Curiously, for those of us who have visited the DMV during the past year, according to their mission statement the DMV embraces “high standards of courteous, efficient and timely service.”

Portion of Beaver Dam Road closed for replacement of crossroad pipe
Lewes, DE - The Department of Transportation’s (DelDOT) Maintenance crews will close a portion of Beaver Dam Road between Indian Mission Road and Stockley Road near Lewes for the replacement of a crossroad pipe.
The closure is expected to take place at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, February 22. The road will reopen on or before 3 p.m. on Friday, March 4, pending weather.
Traffic will be detoured as follows:

Christiana Mall Road bridge to be rebuilt
Dover, DE – The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces that Middletown based contractor Mumford & Miller has been awarded a $12.2 million contract to build the new Christiana Mall Road Bridge over Route 1. This project will include work to build the new bridge and roadway approach tie-ins to the Christiana Mall “ring-road”. The project will also include redesign and drainage work to the existing storm water management pond.

DelDOT prepares for possible ice and sleet
With the sleet, ice and snow likely arriving in Delaware sometime tonight, crews from the Delaware Department of Transportation are getting prepared.
Since the event will start as rain, crews have not pre-treated any road surfaces, since the rain would wash away most of the salt.
In New Castle County, all crews are staying at work, preparing the equipment so they can react quickly when the precipitation begins to fall.
In Kent County, all of the crews will report to work at 8:00 p.m. tonight.

Replacement of crossroad pipe will require the closure of Munchy Branch Road
Rehoboth Beach, DE - The Department of Transportation’s (DelDOT) Maintenance crews will close Munchy Branch Road between Route 1 and Wolfe Neck Road in Rehoboth for the removal and replacement of a crossroad pipe.
The closure is expected to take place at 7 a.m. on Monday, February 21. The road will reopen at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 4, pending weather.

Governor Markell suspends Route 113 Project indefinitely

Rain changing to snow as temperatures drop
With rain predicted to change over to snow as evening temperatures drop, the Winter Storm Warning for New Castle and Kent counties is scheduled to remain in effect until 4 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 27. Snow is forecast to coincide with evening rush hours, starting in New Castle County above the canal between 5 and 6 p.m., and in all areas below the canal between 6 and 7 p.m.

DelDOT crews continue to battle icy and snowy conditions
As the snow storm heads away from the First State, crews from the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) are working to clear the snow and ice from Delaware’s roads.
Statewide, the primary and secondary roads are snow and ice free, with a few isolated exceptions. Most minor roads have been plowed, but many remain snow and ice covered.

DART First State service changes become effective December 5, 2010
Stephen B. Kingsberry, Executive Director of the Delaware Department of Transportation’s Delaware Transit Corporation, announced that changes to DART First State fixed route bus service will become effective December 5, 2010. Statewide Seat Belt Use Rate Back Up to 91%
Dover - The results are in and the news is great. Surveys conducted in mid June to measure seat belt usage statewide show the 2010 Delaware seat belt use rate is 91%, an increase of 3% from last year. “Seatbelts mitigate injury and save lives,” said Delaware Governor Jack Markell. “It’s good to know that more people are using them. The more people buckle up, the greater chance we’ll reduce fatalities on our roads.”
