    As the snow continues to fall across Delaware, Troopers urge all motorists to use extreme caution when traveling on the roadways, as weather conditions may change rapidly over the next few hours. Motorists should be prepared for snow covered and slippery roads, along with limited visibilities which make driving conditions difficult.   • DNREC announces new flood risk maps for New Castle County become effective February 4
    DOVER (Feb. 3, 2015) – DNREC’s Division of Watershed Stewardship announced today that new flood risk maps for New Castle County will be released by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on February 4. The maps can be found online at http://msc.fema.gov/portal. Over the past 10 years, DNREC, through its Division of Watershed Stewardship, has worked with FEMA to improve the accuracy of flood risk maps statewide through a Cooperating Technical Partnership. The new flood risk maps for Kent County became effective in July 2014, and new Sussex County maps will be released on March 16. ....

    Dover, DE - As another winter storm approaches Delaware, crews from the Delaware Department of Transportation have spent today preparing and are making plans for their operations overnight and tomorrow morning. On the primary roads in Sussex County today, DelDOT crews pre-treated the roads with brine, a salt and water mixture. Brine helps to delay, or minimize any accumulation of ice or snow on the roads.     Dover – As we welcome a new year and hopefully a safer year, Delaware Highway Safety officials are reporting preliminary end of year total traffic fatalities. In 2014, Delaware saw a twenty percent (20%) increase in traffic fatalities compared to 2013. Delaware experienced 101 fatalities in 2013 compared to 125 in 2014. Within the past twelve years, the highest number of traffic fatalities that occurred in a single year in Delaware was in 2003 with 148 total traffic fatalities followed by 2006 with 147.     Edgemoor- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a motor vehicle crash in which a pedestrian was struck that occurred this morning north of Wilmington. The initial investigation has determined that the crash occurred at approximately 8:15 a.m. today, as Joshua Melendez, 17, of Wilmington, DE was attempting to cross Edgemoor Road on foot in a southbound direction at the intersection of Denny Road in Wilmington.     Delaware Transit Corporation (DTC) has announced the approval Sussex County Fixed route service changes, as well as new, pilot Flex services that will become effective on Monday, November 10, 2014.
