Sen. Carper held an information session at Sussex Central High School (Georgetown) to remind students and the public that the Free Application for Federal Student Aid enrollment period is now open.
“Navigating the financial aid process can seem overwhelming, but there are people available to help,” said U.S. Sen. Tom Carper.
“I hope through information seminars like this one taking place right in the schools, students and parents can feel comfortable seeking help from their school counselors, state or federal government web sites.”

The Caesar Rodney Institute had a rally for education reform as part of National School Choice Week, which is last January.
The event took place on January 30th at the St. Polycarp Church in Smyrna.

In response to the school shooting in Connecticut on Friday morning, the Delaware Children’s Department provided a list of guidelines for families who may wish to talk to their children about traumatic events.
“We are deeply saddened and offer our sympathy to all of the families, friends and co-workers affected by today’s events,” said Vivian Rapposelli, secretary of the Delaware Children’s Department. “Traumatic events such as these can be difficult for children, families and schools to process and can have a significant impact on the entire community.”

Legislature right to table Charter School Bill
Last Week the House Education Committee tabled HB 380. The purpose of this bill is to revise the Delaware Charter School law by among other things requiring charter school applications be submitted to local school boards for review and consideration, require a face-to-face meeting with the charter school applicant to review and discuss the application, requiring statements about the impact on school district enrollment and financial programs, and eliminating five mile draw boundary.
