For the first time in its history, the Siegel JCC is hosting the North Brandywine Swim League (NBSL) Swim Invitational Championships on Friday, July 22 and Saturday, July 23 at the Garden of Eden Road campus’ 6-lane outdoor pool. This annual event brings together close to 2,000 people, including qualifying youth ages 18 & under from 18 local pools as they represent their respective teams. The Siegel JCC and their swim team, The JCC Sharks, will host the swim Invitational for the next three years. As hosts, the JCC runs the concessions operations, and this year they are partnering with Café Riviera who will be bringing in a food truck and pizza truck. The competition runs from 3:30 to 10:00 p.m. on the 22nd, and from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the 23rd.
“We have spent an unbelievable amount of time planning and preparing for Invitational over the last 6 months. We have so many staff and volunteers coming together to help and I think NBSL families are going to be happy with the event that we’re able to host at the J.” Steph Kegelman, JCC Aquatics Director
The JCC Sharks Summer Swim Team has grown by 80% over the last 5 years. Today the Center boasts a team of over 130 swimmers ages 3- 18 competing in the white division of the NBSL for the first time ever. This growth is attributable in no small part to the unprecedented 900% growth of their Winter Swim Team program in the last 5 years. The JCC now has many more year-round athletes swimming for their team.
No one is more excited to be hosting this year’s championship then the JCC Swim Team parents who have been supporting the JCC Sharks and donating their time to help make this invitational a success. “Over the last few years we have really increased our involvement with the NBSL and it’s very exciting for our swimmers to feel that involvement even more as we host this event,” said Katie Glazier, a swim team parent.
