Southbound lanes of St. Georges Bridge to close for repairs

PHILADELPHIA (Jan. 15, 2010) — The southbound lanes of the St. Georges Bridge across the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal in Delaware will be closed for repairs beginning Tuesday, January 19, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said today.

Construction on the bridge will continue for approximately nine months to repair the concrete deck, first on the southbound, then on the northbound lanes. For updates, motorists may listen to the DELDOT Travelers Advisory Radio Station (WTMC-1380 AM).

While the southbound lanes are closed, traffic in that direction will be detoured to the Sen. William V. Roth (SR 1) Bridge via Delaware Rt. 72.
