BACKGROUND: Hearts and Minds Film is a non-profit media initiative based in Wilmington, Delaware. Since 2006, the group has hosted the Hearts and Minds Film Festival at the Schwartz Center for the Arts.
The festival is unique, as it showcases “super-independent” films from around the world, – movies you won’t see screening at just any movie theater or on television. Each entry is selected not only for excellence, but for its focus on social issues and the human condition: from faith to homelessness to race and identity to disability culture. In an era of increasing social and economic challenges, we feel these films herald a timely call to awareness and service in enlightening, exciting and entertaining ways. There are films geared towards families as well as adults. We host spotlight events for local and younger talent to show their media-making skills, and present panels to discuss media production. There will be something for everyone and we expect our programming to inspire attendees and our intent is to motivate diverse audiences to get involved in discussion and creative action themselves.
