SUGGESTION FOR TODAY: Latin American Christmas Traditions

Start your holiday celebrations by joining Seekers, Spiritual Treasures at St. Peter’s Square on Thursday, December 3 at 7:00 P.M for Latin American Christmas Traditions, presented by Charito Calvachi-Mateyko.

This evening will be an opportunity to know about the most cherished Christmas traditions from many Latin American countries such as Novenas, Parrandas and Posadas, and experience the shared spirituality and values held within them.

Ms. Calvachi is the author of Navidad Latinoamericana: Latin American Christmas, a multicultural Spanish/English book, spanning the Christmas traditions of 25 Latin American counties. Included in the book is a CD with Christmas carols and lyrics to sing along. Born and brought up in Ecuador, Ms. Calvachi is a restorative justice practitioner who holds both a Master’s degree in Conflict Transformation and a Doctor of Law degree. She is a radio producer and host of what is thought to be the only Spanish restorative justice program in the USA. She has received two AP Best Documentary/Feature Awards and the 2008 YWCA Racial Justice Award. In addition, Ms. Calvachi has been appointed by the Governor of Delaware to serve on the Governor’s Advisory Council for Hispanic Affairs.

Her book will be available for purchase.
