Georgetown, DE. Sussex Academy is currently accepting applications for grade 6 and high school. The open enrollment period will end on January 15, 2015.

Sussex Academy is currently open to any student in grades 6-11 who resides in Delaware. Grade 12 will be added in 2016.

Dr. Patricia Oliphant, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, said, “For the past 10 years Sussex Academy has received twice as many applications from parents of incoming sixth grade students as there are seats available.

Consequently, we will hold a public lottery for all open sixth grade positions on January 21, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the school gymnasium. The public is invited to attend the lottery proceedings.”

“Currently, the high school classes are not fully enrolled; this allows openings for any Delaware resident student who applies to grades 9, 10 or 11 for school year 2015-2016,” stated Oliphant.

“At the present time, we do not anticipate a need for a high school lottery so any Delaware student who will be in grades 9, 10, or 11 next year will be accepted.”

Sussex Academy is a public, tuition-free charter school located at 21150 Airport Road, Georgetown.

The mission of the school is to foster academic achievement and social responsibility in a small-school environment where students participate in an accelerated college preparatory program that prepares them for the technological and global challenges of the 21st century and that fosters ethical conduct and service to others in their day-to-day lives.

Sussex Academy uses and Expeditionary Learning approach and will be adding an International Baccalaureate Program for grades 11 and 12.
