In May 2016, Kathleen Leebel chaired her first fundraiser for Sussex Academy. The fundraising event was billed as a three year, Triple Crown, Kentucky Derby party.
During its three year run, the SA Derby Day fundraiser generated over $57,000 for the school.
Sussex Academy Directors Dr. Patricia Oliphant, Mr. Allen Stafford and Mrs. Janet Owens recently recognized Leebel, a Sussex Academy parent, for her fundraising efforts.
Sussex Academy is a public charter, tuition free, school centrally located in Georgetown. Serving grades 6-12, the school practices a project based learning approach and all grade 11 and 12 participate in the International Baccalaureate program.
