2000 – Census Numbers counted approximately 3,652 Hispanics in Sussex County

2010 – We are sure that there are many more Hispanics in Sussex County today, but if people do not fill out the Census form, they will not be counted.

March 2010 – Census forms will be sent to every home and apartment in mid-March.

2010-2020 The State of Delaware, Sussex County, and each and every town will receive federal money over the next 10 years to fund schools, hospitals, roads, and services based on the Census numbers. For every person who is not counted, we will lose federal money to improve our community.

10 questions, 10 minutes, that will affect the next 10 years of your life

We want to mobilize schools, churches, non-profit organizations, businesses, sports, and press/media, and community members to work together to be informed about Census 2010 and encourage every Hispanic to participate by filling out the form and mailing it in.

We wanted to invite you to attend the next Census Complete Count Committee Meeting focusing on the Hispanic Community in Sussex County.

We are focusing on developing strategies to collaborate & coordinate efforts to reach as many Hispanics as possible, sharing information and materials from the U.S. Census, and tracking what is going on where.

The meeting will be held on Friday, February 12 at 12:30 pm in Room 304 of the Arts & Sciences Building at Delaware Technical & Community College.

PLEASE feel free to invite someone to attend the meeting with you. The meeting is open to anyone who is interested in volunteering to work on this project.
