Fans of nearly 150 monthly magazines will no longer have to wait for the latest editions to hit newsstands and bookshelves thanks to a new digital service that puts those periodicals right in the palms of users’ hands – literally.
The Sussex County Department of Libraries announces Zinio for Libraries, an online service that offers multiuser access to dozens of popular periodicals, free of charge. Popular titles include Country Living, Field and Stream, Food Network Magazine, ESPN The Magazine and Popular Mechanics. Awarded Best New Database of 2012 by Library Journal, Zinio is the world’s largest newsstand, providing access both in and out of local libraries to users of e-readers, tablets and other Internet-connected devices.
Zinio’s unique technology digitally recreates a magazine page for page, including full color pictures, intuitive navigation, key word article search, as well as audio and video. Users only need an active Sussex County library card.
“We are now able to offer our patrons the full magazine experience with the added benefits of the electronic environment,” said Sussex County Librarian Kathy Graybeal. “Best of all once a cardholder downloads a magazine it is on their device as long as they wish. There’s no expiration date, and no waiting for new issues to arrive on newsstands or in their local library.”
Please see a library staff member at your local Sussex County library for more information on how to access this service, or go to www.sussex.lib.de.us and click on the Zinio link.
