On Saturday, December 13, Mountaire Farms, WGMD radio station and Hocker’s Super Center teamed up to provide Thanksgiving for Christmas at the Ocean View food market. Dozens of people from all walks of Delmarva turned out to purchase food from the market and stuff cans with money during the three hour live radio broadcast requesting food goods for Thanksgiving For Christmas, an extension of Mountaire’s Thanksgiving for Thousands program which provided food for 20,000 Delmarva persons in need, November 24 and 25.

A call went out over the air by Roger Marino, Director of PR and Community Relations and Jarred Morris, WGMD talk show host, to area food banks requesting that the closest Food Bank to Hocker’s Food Center would be the recipient of the day’s collection. Pastor Vince Rodney, and his wife, Angela, from The Ocean View Church of Christ, which just began a food bank, heard the radio broadcast, drove to the food store site to claim the prize; that being a huge truck load of hundreds of canned goods, boxed food, frozen turkeys, and a 50-lb sack of potatoes.

Saturday, December 13 was three hours of celebration, on air activity and a revival of personalities who came to meet Jarred, and other WGMD radio personalities, Mountaire’s Roger Marino, and pastor Gary Knapp from the, Eastgate Presbyterian Church in Long Neck DE. Gerald Hocker, owner of the Hocker’s Super Centers, was so pleased with the result of the

Thanksgiving for Christmas food drive he exclaimed that he“is committed to the idea of celebrating another holiday food drive”, Thanksgiving at Easter, to be held at his markets in the Spring.
