The Schwartz Center for the Arts is Springing into its 2010 Lineup

The Schwartz Center for the Arts announces its Spring 2010 Lineup, bringing unforgettable music, dance and magical evenings to the Dover community. Opening February 5 & 6 with The Man in Black Show: A Tribute to Johnny Cash, the Schwartz Center presents the incredible talents of Shawn Barker as he recreates the look of the American icon Johnny Cash.

The Season continues with a children’s favorite, Tomie dePaola’s Strega Nona: The Musical. With an energetic and tuneful score, this fantastical tale tells the story of a friendly magical witch on February 18. Rosin up your bow and get ready for a toe-tapping evening filled with thrilling three-part harmonies as the group Southern Comfort celebrates the glory of country music on March 12.

Next in the Spring 2010 season is Barrage on March 18 featuring an international, multi-talented cast performing an high-octane fiddle-fest of music, song, and dance. Clear Space Productions returns to the Center in Fiddler on the Roof, March 26 & 27, known as one of the longest running productions in the history of Broadway.

A fun-filled concert on April 9, Le Vent du Nord, Quebec’s top traditional music band will amaze the audience singing original songs and songs taken from a traditional repertoire. St. Thomas More will present a Rock & Roll Midsummer Night’s Dream on April 16 & 17.

Enjoy Shakespeare’s comedy of mistaken identities in this rollicking adaptation featuring classic 50’s pop tunes. Also returning to the stage on April 24, is Philadanco, celebrating their 40th anniversary. Otherwise known as Philadelphia’s dance company, they are recognized for their sensuous and powerful performances. Last in the Spring 2010 lineup is A Duke Ellington Celebration with the Rutgers University Big Band that will take place at the Schwartz Center on April 29.

Duke Ellington was the most prolific composer of the twentieth century and considered by many to be America’s greatest bandleader and recording artist. The Rutgers University Jazz Ensemble is the elite jazz group that has performed and recorded with Ray Charles and Benny Carter and will celebrate Duke Ellington on his birthday, live on stage.
