The Soul and Life of a Woman (Alma y Vida de Mujer)

ANA MARIA RUIMONTE: Alma y Vida de Mujer (The Soul and Life of a Woman) - NEW CD!

Ana María Ruimonte’s new CD on Owlsong (OWL15111), accompanied by pianist Laurie Rogers features “The Spanish Mezzo&Soprano” performing songs in Spanish and about the culture of Spain from opera and zarzuela and contemporary composers, as well as selections from Spanish composer Enric Granados’ Tonadillas Escenicas in commemoration of the centenary of his death. The Tonadillas were inspired by the paintings of Francisco Goya, in whose Madrid neighborhoods Ana María lived many years. This is a sort of classical concept album built around themes of the soul and life of a woman, but including some “trouser roles” written for a woman to sing the role of a man, so Ana María can portray both Romeo and Juliet on this CD.
