The Way Home thanks Fish On for successful fundraiser

On Thursday, May 12, 2016, The Way Home program held its “pre-summer beach party” fundraiser at Fish On, a SoDel Concepts restaurant, in Lewes, with about 120 people in attendance. Patrons enjoyed chilled shrimp with sweet corn mayo, Carolina-style pulled pork sliders with coleslaw, crab salad tartalets with mustard cream and fresh herbs, a meat and cheese platter, and much more, as they participated in a silent auction and heard testimony about the good work the program has been doing to help reintegrate citizens returning from prison into the community.

Since its founding in 1998, The Way Home program, located in Georgetown, has helped hundreds of people returning from prison remain in the community by providing comprehensive case management to participants for less than one-sixth of the cost of incarceration. Program volunteers meet people getting released at the prison gates and help them get back on their feet. Several program participants testified at the event about the important role The Way Home has played in their transition from prison.

Father Max Wolf, board president, said he was honored by the event turnout and the community’s support of The Way Home’s essential work. “I am inspired by the compassionate spirit and encouraging words of the event’s enthusiastic participants to redouble our lifesaving efforts in supporting people as they heal and build productive, fulfilling lives.”

Claire Snyder-Hall, who helped organize the event, emphasized how much The Way Home values its relationship with SoDel Concepts, the award-winning restaurant group that owns Fish On. “Once again, we want to thank SoDel president Scott Kammerer, as well as the staff at Fish On – Chef Maurice Catlett, Stefana Petean, Lisa Wheeler, Emma Roughton, and others – for the generous pricing and excellent service they provided, as well as the donations for the silent auction. It’s always a pleasure holding events at Fish On.”
