Are you familiar with the game picture nary? It is played in teams; one draws an image and others have to guess what the image represents before the timer sounds. Well, it appears that some think that God plays that game using the Bible. Fixated on certain scriptures, and before considering what they might mean, some yell out interpretations. They speak with confidence and boldness, convinced and convincing that they have the spirit of the matter deciphered.
Unfortunately, many others take their words at face value without pondering the spiritual intent. Yet, Jesus said ‘the words that I speak are Spirit.” Few give it not another thought because the explanations make some sense to them. Even though the picture is not clear or fully understood, they rather not take the time for themselves to study the matter.
“Spiritual matters’ deciphered in this way are filed away in the “fixed-beliefs” drawer in the mental folder called “law: doctrines of men.” I know this because in my early days as a Christian, I did the same thing. I would believe and repeat what I heard others say because I thought “they must know what they are talking about” or because the fuzzy picture I saw looked like what they described.
At that stage of immaturity, God let us get away with it but only until such time as we either surrender to the deep yearning for truth that bubbles inside or we experience something traumatic that forces us to examine these spiritual matters. Thank God that in His infinite wisdom, he causes us to pull the particular files out and through His Spirit, allows us to look at particular scriptures again. With discerning eyes, this time, we consider whether those things are so, are allowed to prove all things, and to hold onto that which is good and profitable.
Through such process, The Holy Spirit allows us to realize our past errors of interpretation so that we can see the weak foundation crumble! However do not expect it to happen all at once. It is a process that involves an examination of our inner contradictions and the experience of Christ in such a manner that the scriptures become the second witness.
This process is not a game but it does have a clue: the fruit of the Spirit. It is ONE fruit manifesting “…love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance against such there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22 and 23)

¿Está familiarizado con el juego ‘picture nary’? Se juega en equipos; uno dibuja una imagen y los otros tienen que adivinar lo que representa la imagen antes de que suene el timbre. Bueno, parece que algunos piensan que Dios juega ese juego usando la Biblia. Algunos se concentran en ciertas escrituras y antes de considerar lo que puede significar, gritan sus interpretaciones. Hablan con confianza y audacia, convencidos y convenciendo que tienen el espíritu del asunto descifrado.
Desafortunadamente, muchos otros toman por hechos sus palabras sin meditar sobre la intención espiritual. Sin embargo, Jesús dijo: “las palabras que yo hablo son espíritu.” Pocos le dan una segunda consideración porque las explicaciones hacen algún sentido. Aunque la imagen no es clara ni se entiende completamente, no toman el tiempo estudiar el asunto por sí mismos.
Los asuntos espirituales descifrados de esta manera, ellos archivan en el cajón mental llamado ‘ley: doctrinas de los hombres.’ Esto lo sé porque en mis inicios como cristiana, yo hice lo mismo. Creí y repetí lo que oí de otros porque pensé “deben saber lo que están hablando” o porque la imagen borrosa parecía algo de lo que describía.
Dios nos permite ese comportamiento durante la etapa de inmadurez, hasta el momento en que nos rendimos ante el profundo anhelo por la verdad que brota como burbujas dentro de nuestro ser o al experimentar algo traumático que nos obliga a examinar estos asuntos espirituales. Gracias a Dios, en su infinita sabiduría, El causa que se tire el archivo hacia fuera y a través de su espíritu, nos permite el observar más detenidamente las escrituras. Con ojos más exigentes, esta vez, consideramos las cosas, las corroboramos y nos aferramos a lo que es bueno y de provecho.
A través de ese proceso, el Espíritu Santo nos permite enmendar nuestros errores para ver que los errores de interpretación son una base débil destinada a derrumbarse. Sin embargo esto no sucede de pronto sino que es un proceso que incluye la examinación de nuestras contradicciones internas y el experimentar a Cristo de tal manera que las escrituras se convierten en el segundo testigo.
Aunque este proceso no es un juego si tiene una pista: el fruto del espíritu. Es una fruta que manifiesta “… amor, gozo, paz, paciencia, benignidad, bondad, fe, mansedumbre, templanza, y contra tal cosas no hay ley.” (Gálatas 5:22 y 23)
