Town of Georgetown launches tax amnesty program

The Town of Georgetown is offering a Tax Amnesty Program to assist residents and businesses during these tough economic times. At the June 27, 2012 Town Council Meeting, the Mayor and Council unanimously approved a program to waive the interest and penalties on outstanding property tax accounts, provided the principal balance is paid in full on/before Friday, August 31, 2012.

There are currently 698 property tax accounts with outstanding amounts due and this is an opportunity to become current on their obligation. Mayor Wyatt said “anything we can do to help, works well for both the property owner and the Town.”

In late 2009, the Town of Georgetown offered a similar program netting $26,056.95 in outstanding taxes owed the Town.

Anyone with questions about this program or needing additional information is encouraged to contact the Town at (302) 856-7391.
