Three amazing young immigrant university students started a walk last Saturday from New York to Washington DC in order to call attention to the plight of immigrant young adults whom are unable to get special in-state tuition rates at universities.

They are advocating for The Dream Act.
Letter from Angy Paola Rivera
“My name is Angy and I am 39; I am part of an organization called the New York State Youth Leadership Council (NYSYLC).
We are an organization that promotes the advancement of immigrant youth and children of immigrant parents and we are located in New York City.
We believe education should be a priority and our legislative target is the Dream Act: a bill that if passed would help undocumented students be on a path to citizenship if they meet certain requirements.
Unfortunately, this bill has been put on hold for over 9 years most of the students that qualify for the Dream Act have put their dreams on hold even though they have been here all their lives.
2010 has become a big year and all over the country organizations are fighting to get this bill passed.
One of the ways to raise awareness has been through the Trail Of Dreams. Four students from Florida have been walking since Jan 1 to reach Washington D.C on May 1st.
Not only have they been walking this whole time but they are also sharing their stories of undocumented youth, of hope, and also confronting situations where peoples human rights are being targeted (this is their site @link href=’http://www.trail2010.org/ ‘target=”_blank”>www.trail2010.org/link
In solidarity to these brave students, 6 walkers from New York plan on walking to Washington D.C as well and they will be leaving April 10th.
The NYSYLC will be hosting a Walk-a-Thon on April 10th for those who wish to walk but can walk for a month.
Along with this walk we need to get funds and collect non-perishable foods. Not only do the walkers need food and clothes but they also need a place to sleep.
By April 19th they reach Delaware. I wanted to know if you could help me find somewhere for them to sleep or maybe plan an event around their arrival to welcome them to Voices. They will be leaving at 7 in the morning and they will only need a space somewhere because walkers will have sleeping bags and such. Please let me know if this is possible and if not there is still other ways you can help. Thank you for your time.
Angy Paola Rivera.”
