Edgemoor- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a motor vehicle crash in which a pedestrian was struck that occurred this morning north of Wilmington.

The initial investigation has determined that the crash occurred at approximately 8:15 a.m. today, as Joshua Melendez, 17, of Wilmington, DE was attempting to cross Edgemoor Road on foot in a southbound direction at the intersection of Denny Road in Wilmington. Melendez had just exited a DART bus and was attempting to cross the roadway in order to catch a second bus on the opposite side. Melendez stepped into the path of a 2011 Dodge Charger, which was traveling westbound on Edgemoor Road, and which was being operated by Justin L. Cobb, 27, of Wilmington. The force of the impact vaulted Melendez into the windshield of the Dodge before he was thrown to the ground, landing in the roadway. Justin Cobb was able to bring his vehicle to a stop at the scene. He was not injured.

Joshua Melendez was removed from the scene by Emergency Medical Services and transported to the Christiana Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. He was cited by troopers for failure to yield the right of way to a motor vehicle.

Edgemoor Road was closed in both directions for approximately one hour as the crash was investigated and cleared.
