Wilmington, DE – The process of realigning the southbound span of the I-495 Bridge is now underway. It is a slow methodical procedure which requires many incremental steps including the jacking of multiple points on the structure, the placement of metal shims, the installation of steel braces, and the tying down of steel cables.
Because each step of the process takes time to complete and is dependent on the successful completion of each preceding task, it is not yet possible to say when the job will be done. We continue, however, to have confidence in meeting or exceeding our target of opening the southbound lanes by September 1, with northbound to follow approximately two weeks to a month later.
DelDOT will continue to issue updates on this work as it progresses toward completion.
