November 23, 2020 – Winterthur Museum, Garden, and Library and The Choir School of Delaware, an out-of-school time music and academic enrichment program serving some of Wilmington’s most vulnerable youth, are proud to announce that The Choir School will serve as Winterthur’s Artists-in-Residence during the Fall 2020 and Spring 2020 seasons. The Choir School of Delaware will present a series of concerts during the Winterthur Yuletide House Tours in December, followed by a concert celebrating fables, fairy tales and nursery rhymes in April of 2021.

The Choir School of Delaware has been critically acclaimed as one of the region’s most sought- after choral ensembles, performing continuously as an inter-generational chorus since 1883. In recent years, The Choir School has been featured in regional and national choral conferences, commissioned works from composers such as Philip W.J. Stopford and Rollo Dilworth, and collaborated with internationally acclaimed groups like VOCES8 and The Swingles.

The choir’s current season, “We Tell the Story,” was carefully curated as a means of necessary literacy intervention for Choir School students. “With students missing nearly 65% of in-school time due to COVID-19 in 2020, we have decided to focus on developing literacy and comprehension. We know our students love to sing, so we have crafted a season that will allow them to improve literacy skills while learning and performing fun choral repertoire,” says Arreon A. Harley-Emerson, Director of Music and Operations.

About The Choir School of Delaware
The Choir School of Delaware has been a “community center that sings” for 137 years, with the belief that a rich offering of academic support, mentoring, and wrap-around services is amplified by the power of music. “This organization has a strong legacy of serving and engaging Wilmington’s youth and families through music, with performances each year throughout northern Delaware and Philadelphia, in addition to touring engagements” said Arreon A. Harley-Emerson, Director of Music and Operations.
The Choir School provides a life-changing experience for children ages 7-17 in the greater Wilmington, Delaware area. “Since becoming an after-school program nearly three decades ago, Choir School students have earned a 100% high school graduation rate, with all going on to higher education or the services,” said Peter D. Gordon, President, Board of Directors. www.choirschoolofdelaware.org
