We are very grateful that the Hispanic Media collaborates with the Delaware Hispanic Commission allowing us to keep the public informed about the efforts and achievements made to benefit our community through our news column titled “Yes, we can.”
In 2013, the creation of our website was a great achievement. The commission’s Co-Chair, Sonia Aguilar, lead the efforts of this initiative until its completion. Under her leadership, volunteer collaborators will keep the website updated.
You can access the website with the following link: http://hispanic.delaware.gov/ The website contains information about Housing, Work and Developing Businesses, Driver’s License, Immigration, English Language Learning, Health Care and Networking with the Community. The Commission’s subcommittees are in charge of developing each of these issues. Therefore, if you want to obtain more information about it, send a message to the Chair of the pertaining subcommittee.
The next goal is to translate this information into the Spanish language. However, the part concerning Housing and Transportation has already a link on important information in Spanish. The Housing page has a link translated into the Spanish language, to the Housing Organization of Delaware that contains listings for houses that are for rent and for sale, The Transportation page includes the Driver’s Manual and the Commercial License Manual in Spanish, to study to obtain a Commercial and Non Commercial Driver’s License.
The Economic Development page has a listing of jobs in which bilingual staff is needed. We encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities.
The creation of the Delaware Hispanic Commission’s website, thanks to the effort of our Co-Chair, Sonia Aguilar, allows our Hispanic community to have access to information, and to count with a venue for asking questions on issue of relevance.
Indeed, another valuable feature of the website is that it allows us to create a direct line of communication with our community in order to build our future together. Check the calendar with activities, seminars, etc., that help us build and develop our progress and identity.
Your feedback benefits us all. In the next column, I will make a synthesis of what has been done in the year of 2013.
Let us say farewell to the Old Year and let us greet the hopes that await us in the year 2014.

Estamos muy agradecidos a los medios hispanos de comunicación que, en acción mancomunada, permiten a la Comisión Hispana de Delaware, través de esta columna titulada “Sí se puede,” mantenerlos informados sobre los esfuerzos y los logros en los que incurrimos al trabajar por nuestra comunidad.
En el 2013, la creación de la página del Internet fue un gran logro. La Vicepresidenta de la Comisión, Sonia Aguilar, tomó a cargo esta iniciativa hasta su culminación, y seguirá monitoreando a los voluntarios que colaboran con ella para mantener la información actualizada en el portal.
Ustedes pueden acceder al portal con el siguiente enlace: http://hispanic.delaware.gov/ El portal contiene información sobre Vivienda, Trabajo y Desarrollo de Negocios, Licencias de Manejo, Inmigración, Aprendizaje del Idioma Inglés, Cuidado de la Salud y Enlace con la Comunidad. Cada uno de estos temas está a cargo de uno de los Subcomités de la Comisión, de tal modo que si ustedes tuviesen la necesidad de mayor explicación o quieren hacer preguntas concretas, pueden enviar un mensaje a la/el presidenta/e de ese subcomité.
La próxima meta es traducir esta información al idioma castellano. Sin embargo, la parte referente a la Vivienda y el Transporte tiene ya enlace sobre información importante en castellano. La página de la Vivienda tiene un enlace con La Organización de Vivienda de Delaware que contiene listados en idioma castellano de casas para alquiler y venta. La página de Transporte incluye el Manual del Conductor y el Manual de Licencia Comercial en castellano, para prepararse a obtener la licencia de manejo.
La página de Desarrollo Económico tiene listados de trabajos en que se necesita personal bilingüe. Les motivamos a que tomen ventaja de esta información.
El esfuerzo de nuestra Vicepresidenta, Sonia Aguilar, al crear el Portal de la Comisión Hispana de Delaware, permite que nuestra comunidad tenga acceso a información y que le podamos servir respondiendo, en todo lo posible, a sus preguntas.
Adicionalmente, otra cosa valiosa es que este Portal nos permite crear una comunicación directa con ustedes, para juntos forjar nuestro futuro. Chequee el calendario de actividades, seminarios, etc., que nos informan y ayudan a cimentar nuestro progreso e identidad.
Sus mensajes nos beneficiarán a todos. En la próxima columna haré una síntesis de lo realizado en el Año 2013. Despidamos el Año Viejo creando esperanzas para el Año 2014.
