Dover – Delaware law enforcement officer arrested 26 individuals for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of alcohol and/or drugs during week four of the Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign (July 24 & 25). Agencies conducting checkpoints included the New Castle County DUI Task Force (Newark), DSP Troop 5 (Laurel), DSP Troop 6 (Newport) and the Rehoboth Beach Police.
In addition to the 26 DUI arrests, officers issued 1 citation for underage drinking, apprehended 6 wanted individuals, made 8 drug arrests, 9 felony arrests, seized 1 weapon, issued 7 seat belt citations, 2 child restraint citations, and 58 citations for various other traffic violations.
The weekend’s enforcement brings the total number of arrests for the first month of the 2009 Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign to: 85 for DUI, 25 for drug violations, 26 for felony violations, and 2 for underage drinking violations. In addition officers have recovered 1 stolen vehicle, apprehended 20 wanted individuals, seized 2 weapons and issued 43 citations for seat belt violations, 13 for child restraint violations and 243 for additional traffic violations.
Two sobriety checkpoints are scheduled to occur the weekend of July 31st. The checkpoints are scheduled for:
Friday July 31st – Newark (NcCo DUI Task Force)
Saturday August 1st – Milford (Milford PD)
Checkpoint Strikeforce is a regional sobriety checkpoint campaign aimed at arresting DUI offenders, and using high visibility enforcement to deter those who would otherwise choose to drink and drive. The campaign, a six month long effort running through New Year’s Eve, involves setting up weekly DUI checkpoints statewide.
