(Seaford, DE). On Tuesday, July 15, Sussex County Habitat for Humanity held two blessing ceremonies in Seaford to celebrate the start of a new chapter for the Bradley and Sturgis families, who will soon break ground on their future homes.

The homes will be built on land generously donated to the organization by the Town of Seaford, reflecting the city’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to affordable housing for local families.

The ceremonies were attended by Habitat staff, supporters, neighbors, family members, and spiritual leaders from the families’ communities. After a moment of prayer, attendees were invited to write personal messages of encouragement on wooden boards that will later become part of the homes’ framing. This meaningful tradition helps set a foundation of hope and love before the first walls go up.

“These blessing ceremonies are a powerful reminder of why we do what we do,” said Ricky Pollitt, Sussex County Habitat’s Director of Development. “It’s not just about building houses – it’s about bringing people together to uplift families and strengthen entire communities.”

The Bradley and Sturgis families will now begin their journey through Habitat’s homeownership program. This includes financial education, volunteer service hours, and long-term support to ensure lasting stability.

Sussex County Habitat for Humanity is deeply grateful to the Town of Seaford, the partner families, and everyone who joined us in support of these new beginnings.
