GEORGETOWN, Del. — The Town of Georgetown will host the Georgetown Spirit of 1776 Artisan & Craft Festival on Saturday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on South Race Street as part of the nationwide America 250 commemoration.

The free public event will feature historical presentations, cultural performances, food and arts vendors, family activities and community organizations that reflect the people and traditions connected to Georgetown’s history.

As communities across the country recognize America’s 250th anniversary, Georgetown’s event focuses on the local stories that have shaped the town across generations. The festival is designed to give residents and visitors a way to experience history through music, storytelling, performance, food, art, and shared community spaces.

Festival programming will include the Nanticoke Indian Dance Troupe, African American heritage presentations, Latino history and dance, patriotic music, a scavenger hunt, and local vendors throughout the day.

“America’s 250th anniversary is not only a national milestone,” said Gene Dvornick, Town Manager. “It is also a chance for Georgetown to look at our own story, recognize the people who have helped shape this town, and celebrate how Delawareans have built community that shapes who we are as Americans.”

The Georgetown Public Library Summer Reading Kickoff Party will also take place during the event from 2 to 4 p.m. at the library. Led by Ms. Debbie, the kickoff party will introduce this year’s “Unearth A Story” summer reading theme and give families an opportunity to register for the summer reading challenge. The event will also include snacks, crafts, games, and giveaways for children who attend.

Organizers say the event is intended to create space for residents and visitors of all ages to engage with local history while supporting downtown activity and community participation.

“This will be a full day downtown with music, vendors, cultural presentations and activities for families,” said Faye West, Chair of Georgetown’s America 250 Committee. “We want people to come for the festival, spend time on South Race Street and leave with a stronger connection to Georgetown and the people who call it home.”

The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available in the Sussex County Family Court Facility Parking Garage located on East Pine Street.
