LEWES – Beebe Healthcare hosted Margaret Rollins and family recently to celebrate the completion of the Shaw Building renovations and thank the Ma-Ran Foundation for its continued generosity.
The Ma-Ran Foundation donated $3 million on March 1, 2022, to the Beebe Medical Foundation to establish the R. Randall Rollins Center for Medical Education at Beebe Healthcare, which is located in the historic Shaw Building – the original Beebe Hospital. This transformational gift helped fund Beebe’s Graduate Medical Education program that now hosts third-year medical students and Beebe’s first- and second-year Family Medicine Resident Physicians.
In addition, the Ma-Ran Foundation established a maintenance endowment for $1 million to ensure the ongoing upkeep of the Shaw building. The renovations included offices, on-call suites, a lounge, and meeting areas.
“Over the years, the Rollins family have shown a loyal commitment to education and patient care at Beebe Healthcare,” said Tom Protack, President, Beebe Medical Foundation. “It’s also very fitting to honor the Rollins family on our Margaret H. Rollins Lewes Campus in front of the historic Shaw building that houses the R. Randall Rollins Center for Medical Education.”
The Rollins family and Ma-Ran Foundation have a long history of supporting Beebe and medical education. Beebe’s historic Lewes Campus and School of Nursing are named in honor of Margaret H. Rollins.
“The Rollins family have made such a significant impact on Beebe and Sussex County throughout the years,” said David A. Tam, MD, MBA, CPHE, FACHE, President & CEO, Beebe Healthcare. “These gifts have helped us forge ahead in creating a beautiful space and top-notch programs to recruit physicians and nurses to learn and start their careers at Beebe, while we continue to improve access to safe, quality care for the people of Sussex County.”
The Family Medicine Residency recently welcomed its second class of resident physicians. It is also one of just 25 programs across the country that have been selected to participate in a special pilot project facilitated by the Society for Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM). The project is designed to elevate the importance of competency-based medical education while integrating a more individualized and personalized approach to learning for medical residents.
“We are so appreciative of the generosity from the Rollins family. It truly makes a difference in our resident physicians’ lives to feel the support,” said Joyce Robert, MD, Program Director for Beebe’s Family Medicine Residency. “The R. Randall Rollins Center for Medical Education is a top choice for any physician looking to finish their training.”
