GEORGETOWN, DE – Summer, 2025 – The Georgetown Public Library is proud to announce it will host a specialized art therapy program designed to support individuals living with dementia. The program is called “Create Together: Art & Connection for individuals living with a dementia disorder and their caregivers.” This innovative program is made possible through a generous grant from the RUSA Stephen T. Riedner Grant for Life Enhancing Library Programs for People Living with Dementia. The program aims to enhance cognitive function, stimulate memory, and foster emotional well-being through creative expression.

This free, two-part group is designed for people living with dementia and the caregivers who care for them. In a relaxed, welcoming space, we’ll explore simple, guided art projects—no experience needed, just curiosity and a willingness to co-create together.

“We are incredibly excited to bring this vital program to our community,” said Rachel Culver, Director. “Thanks to the support of this grant, we can offer a meaningful and therapeutic experience for individuals with dementia and their caregivers. We believe in the power of art to connect, heal, and bring joy, and we are committed to providing resources that enrich the lives of all our residents.”

Upon completion of the program, a reception will be held at the library to celebrate the participants’ artistic journey and achievements. This reception will provide an opportunity for participants, their families, caregivers, and community members to view the artwork created during the program and share in a moment of recognition and camaraderie. Light refreshments will be served.
