“Los sistemas fascistas requieren de la crueldad para imponerse como gobierno y sistema político”, es una de las explicaciones que di a una escritora con quien platique en la Ciudad de México a inicios de este año. Mi amiga deseaba entender qué es lo que está sucediendo con los Estados Unidos. Mi respuesta pensada fue: “se está estableciendo un gobierno fascista que intenta desmantelar los sistemas democráticos, que aun con sus fallas había sido funcional hasta enero 6 del 2021 cuando el grupo MAGA (Make America Great Again) asaltó el capitolio”.
Mi amiga entonces replicó, —pero Obed explícame los disparos en el rostro de Renee Good el pasado siete de enero en Minneapolis Minnesota por un agente de ICE y las muertes en las facilidades de ICE en el año 2025.
—Es la crueldad que abrazó desde hace mucho tiempo la base MAGA y la crueldad carece de filtros humanos, Trump se convirtió en el Dios de los republicanos y desde ahí se justifican, desde sus miedos y odio al migrante y a otros grupos. Los defensores de ICE argumentan que fue en defensa propia, pero el video muestra claramente que el agente hizo tres disparos desde la ventana del auto estando a un lado de él. Además profesionales de la policía han argumentado que alguien entrenado no dispara a un auto— fue mi respuesta.
Para que el nazismo se impusiera, necesitaba ser cruel, primero deshumanizar en este caso al pueblo judío, generar un odio profundo contra ellos, para entonces generar un odio colectivo capaz de que personas abrazaran acciones criminales como torturar, oprimir en campos de concentración, reventar mentalmente y fisicamente a los prisioneros y finalmente aniquilarlos, toda razón se perdió en esas acciones, la crueldad requiere pasar todos esos filtros, y eso es lo que estamos viendo en la “América de Trump”. El inmigrante de cualquier nacionalidad ha sido despojado de su humanidad, por más de una década se ha sembrado un odio contra el inmigrante y se le ha deshumanizado, por eso el blanco de clase media, el que vive en el suburbio y en el privilegio en su mayoría se mantiene neutral e ignora lo que sucede, prefiere no ver hasta que tenga que hacerlo, para entonces será tarde.
A mi regreso de México me he enterado de varias detenciones y en estos días he hablado con las familias, los centros de ICE operan como campos de concentración donde se esmeran en quebrar las voluntades y la salud de los detenidos. En un año de Trump ya hay varios detenidos que han muerto en las facilidades de ICE, el diario The Guardian ha registrado que en el año 2025, 32 inmigrantes murieron debido, paro cardiaco, infarto cerebral, fallas respiratorias, tuberculosis, depresión, suicidio, por la precaria atención médica y el maltrato. En estas facilidades y desde el mismo arresto se presiona psicológicamente al inmigrante, que resulta en el deterioro de la salud. Si bien sabemos que Donald Trump, Stephen Miller y Kristi Noem son crueles y declaran abiertamente desde la supremacía blanca con dichos relacionado al fascismo y de trasfondo Nazi como “Uno de nosotros, todos de ustedes”, resulta más preocupante cuando la crueldad ha sido abrazada por vecinos y ciudadanos dispuestos a matar, disparar en el rostro, quebrantar y hacer sufrir. Es incluso decepcionante y preocupante que en esa trampa han caído incluso pastores de diversas iglesias que han olvidado la esencia de su fe basada en el amor, para proclamar con sus dichos el equivalente de “Trump Bless America” cambiando su fe en Dios por una fe en Trump, es decir la crueldad de Trump, sus miedos y traumas ya penetraron el espíritu de muchos — que incluso decían amar— y mas de aquellos que buscaban una razón para actuar con crueldad. Así las cosas en la “América y el culto a Trump”.

The Immigrant Village – The Cult of Trump

“Fascist systems require cruelty in order to impose themselves as a form of government and political system,” is one of the explanations I gave to a writer with whom I spoke in Mexico City at the beginning of this year. My friend wanted to understand what is happening in the United States. My considered response was: “A fascist government is being established that seeks to dismantle democratic systems, which, despite their flaws, had been functional until January 6, 2021, when the MAGA (Make America Great Again) group stormed the Capitol.”
My friend then replied, “But Obed, explain to me the gunshots to the face of Renee Good on January seventh, 2026 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, by an ICE agent, and the deaths in ICE facilities in the year 2025.”
“It is the cruelty that the MAGA base embraced long ago, and cruelty lacks human filters. Trump became the god of the Republicans, and from there everything is justified—rooted in their fears and hatred of immigrants and other groups. Defenders of ICE argue that it was self-defense, but the video clearly shows that the agent fired three shots from the car window while being right next to him. Moreover, law-enforcement professionals have argued that someone properly trained does not fire at a car,” was my response.
For Nazism to impose itself, it needed to be cruel—first to dehumanize, in this case, the Jewish people; to generate a profound hatred against them; and then to produce a collective hatred capable of leading people to embrace criminal actions such as torture, oppression in concentration camps, the mental and physical breaking of prisoners, and ultimately their annihilation. All reason was lost in those actions. Cruelty requires passing through all of these filters, and that is what we are seeing in “Trump’s America.” The immigrant, of any nationality, has been stripped of their humanity. For more than a decade, hatred against immigrants has been cultivated and they have been dehumanized. That is why the white middle-class person, the one who lives in the suburbs and in privilege, for the most part remains neutral and ignores what is happening, preferring not to see until they are forced to do so—by then, it will be too late.
Upon my return from Mexico, I learned of several arrests, and in recent days I have spoken with the families. ICE centers operate like concentration camps, where efforts are made to break the will and health of detainees. In one year of Trump, several detainees have already died in ICE facilities. The newspaper *The Guardian* has reported that in 2025, 32 immigrants died due to cardiac arrest, stroke, respiratory failure, tuberculosis, depression, and suicide, as a result of inadequate medical care and mistreatment. In these facilities, and from the very moment of arrest, immigrants are subjected to psychological pressure that leads to the deterioration of their health. While we know that Donald Trump, Stephen Miller, and Kristi Noem are cruel and openly speak from a position of white supremacy, using language associated with fascism and with a Nazi undertone such as “One of us, all of you,” it is even more troubling when cruelty has been embraced by neighbors and citizens willing to kill, to shoot someone in the face, to break and make others suffer. It is even disappointing and alarming that pastors from various churches have fallen into this trap, forgetting the essence of their faith based on love, and instead proclaiming through their words the equivalent of “Trump Bless America,” replacing faith in God with faith in Trump—that is, in Trump’s cruelty. His fears and traumas have already penetrated the spirit of many—even those who claimed to love—and especially those who were looking for a reason to act with cruelty. Such is the state of affairs in “America and the cult of Trump.”
