Lieutenant Governor-elect Kyle Evans Gay has announced that Dr. Sarah Stowens Ed.D, a highly-respected organizer and policy leader, will lead her office as Chief of Staff.
Stowens, who is currently managing Gay’s transition team, most recently worked as a Senior Manager for State Policy and Advocacy for ChristianaCare and previously directed education advocacy efforts at Rodel. Stowens was also a driving force behind Delaware’s recent gun violence prevention push as the founding Moms Demand Action Delaware Chapter Lead and has fought to expand healthcare access as the co-founder and Board President of the First State Abortion Fund.
“From gun violence prevention to child care and public education advocacy, Sarah has a proven track-record of convening and then elevating the perspectives of Delawareans I am hoping to empower as Lieutenant Governor,” Gay said. “An organizer at heart, Sarah will help ensure I am prepared to fulfill my official duties presiding over the Senate and leading the Board of Pardons, while ensuring I remain connected to our communities and Legislative leaders as we offer a new vision for how to move our State forward.”
“I am honored and excited to partner with someone who works every day to lift up Delaware’s working class, who centers the voices of working parents, and who has successfully brought a new generation of leadership and new ways of imagining what is possible to Delaware’s halls of government,” Stowens said. “As an office, we will work every day to ensure the Lieutenant Governor-elect is supported in executing her duties, and that we are responsive to the needs of the Delawareans we serve.”
Stowens will formally start as Chief of Staff on January 21. In the intervening months, she will be working with Gay on her transition from State Senator to Lieutenant Governor. “We are excited to build out a talented team, diverse in thought and experience, who will be partners in the critical work Lieutenant Governor-elect Gay is doing every day,” Stowens said. “We plan to be ready to deliver for Delaware on day one.”
