Due to the anticipated winter storm, all schools and offices in the Christina School District will be closed on Monday, January 6. Preschool Programs, Adult Education, Continuing Education Classes, CSD Virtual Academy and Distance Learning classes are also canceled.

CITY OF WILMINGTON: Weather Causes Trash Collection Schedule to Be Adjusted for Week
Public Works Commissioner Kelly Williams said today that, due to weather conditions expected from tomorrow’s pending snow event, trash collection will be delayed. The collection of recyclables will remain unchanged. The modified collection schedule is as follows:
• Monday, January 6: NO COLLECTION
• Tuesday, January 7: East of I-95 trash collection
• Wednesday, January 8: West of I-95 trash collection
• Thursday, January 9: East of I-95 recyclables collection
• Friday, January 10: West of I-95 recyclables collection

Town of Georgetown: Snow Emergency Plan Activation
Parking restrictions in effect starting at 10:00 PM Today
Georgetown – With the forecast of significant winter weather and the issuance of a Winter Storm Warning for the Georgetown area, effective today, January 5, 2025, at 10:00 PM, the Town of Georgetown will activate its snow emergency plan.
Starting at this time, parking restrictions will apply to designated snow emergency routes, making it easier and more effective for equipment to clear snow from the streets. 
The designated snow emergency routes are:
• Market Street (East and West)
• Bedford Street (North and South)
• Bridgeville Road
• Pine Street (East and West)
• Race Street (North and South)
• Front Street (North and South)
• East Laurel Street – North Bedford Street to North Race Street
• West Laurel Street – North Bedford Street to North Front Street
• Edward Street – North Bedford Street to North Front Street
• West North Street – North Bedford Street to DuPont Highway (Route 113)
• Albury Avenue – East Market Street to Cedar Street

Vehicles parked along these streets may be subject to towing if not removed by the owner.  Residents are asked to avoid traveling during adverse weather conditions. Those who must travel are asked to use caution around snow removal equipment and personnel.

Town ordinance also states that the sidewalks be cleared within 24 hours after a snowfall. Residents with a fire hydrant near their property are asked to take an extra minute or two to ensure that it is clear and visible.

STATE OF DELAWARE OFFICES: 8pm Jan 6 Update: On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, State of Delaware offices in Kent and Sussex Counties will open at 10 a.m. Non-essential employees who live or work in Kent and Sussex Counties should report to work by 10 a.m. Essential employees designated for severe weather are to report as scheduled. State of Delaware offices in New Castle County will operate on their regular schedule.

DART Service Status for Monday, January 6, 2025

Kent and Sussex Counties: All bus services in Kent and Sussex Counties are suspended, including Intercounty service and Paratransit Service, with exception of dialysis trips to open facilities. Please call 911 for all other emergency trips.

  • BALTIMORE, MD (Monday, January 6, 2025) – Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott issued the following evening update regarding the winter storm that has caused significant snow accumulation, icy conditions, and freezing temperatures across Baltimore. 
  • The Baltimore City Emergency Operations Center (EOC) remains activated. The State of Emergency declaration issued by Mayor Scott last night remains in effect.
  • For updated weather forecasts and traffic conditions, residents should tune into local news stations, check social media resources and visit the city’s snow page at snow.baltimore city.gov.
  • Forecast Update
  • The Baltimore region continues to be under a National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Winter Storm Warning, lasting until Tuesday, January 7 at 1:00 a.m. Baltimore City saw snow accumulation of at least 4 inches. 
  • These conditions will continue to cause snowy and icy conditions on roadways across the city, but Baltimore City Department of Transportation crews and contractors continue to work around the clock plowing and treating roads. 
  • Icy conditions and streets that need to be re-treated can be called-in to 3-1-1 or submitted to the 3-1-1 app. 
  • Ongoing Road Treatment & Crew Deployment
  • Department of Transportation snow crews and contractors have remained fully activated since 5:00 p.m. Sunday evening and are continuing around the clock operations heading into tonight.
  • Main streets, school zones, and emergency routes to hospitals were among the first areas to be plowed and salted. Crews continue to focus on all primary and secondary zones, and are working to conduct as much treatment as possible before snow returns later this afternoon.
  • Full deployment of available crews continues, with over 250 DOT snow vehicles/equipment currently deployed and over 400 additional contractor vehicles in rotation.

  • Baltimore City Government will operate on a 2-hour delayed opening on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 with liberal leave and telework options in effect for non-essential employees. Additional information or questions should be addressed by the Office of the Labor Commissioner or immediate supervisors.
  • Baltimore City Schools have announced that schools will be closed on Tuesday, January 7. School essential employees should report on time.   • Enoch Pratt Libraries will remain closed on Tuesday, January 7. More information on closures and branch hours can be found at https://www.prattlibrary.org/.
  • DPW has suspended Mechanical Street Sweeping operations until further notice.
  • DPW has also announced that due to continued impassable conditions in alleyways, trash and recycling pickup will be postponed for Tuesday, January 7, 2025. This week’s trash and recycling schedule will be pushed back one day (for example, if your normal pickup is on Tuesday, it will now be Wednesday. If your pickup is Wednesday, it will now be Thursday, etc.)
  • The Harbor Connector and Charm City Circulator will operate on normal schedules tomorrow. Riders can check for service updates at charmcitycirc.com and through the Passio Go app.

  • Stay home and off the roads, if possible. If travel is necessary, drive slow and take added precautions.

  • Be careful with secondary heating sources like space heaters. Always use as directed and avoid placing them anywhere that may be a fire hazard.
  • If you experience issues related to building heat being out, you can contact 311 who may be able to provide assistance.
  • Ensure smoke alarms are in working order and establish a fire safety plan for your entire family.
  • Remember to bring pets indoors whenever possible. If your pet is outdoors, they must be protected by a well-constructed, raised shelter that is dry and draft-free. Sufficient bedding and a door flap must be in place to maintain body heat. Fresh, unfrozen, drinkable water must be provided at all times.   • Snow Emergency Routes are clearly marked with black and white signs and residents should follow all posted signage. Residents that park along these designated routes obstruct the movement of snow plows and hinder safe snow removal efforts. If Phase II Snow Emergency is implemented, any vehicles that are parked along these designated roadways will be relocated by tow vehicles to ensure safe plow operations. Residents with questions concerning the location of their vehicles should call 311.
  • The Parking Authority of Baltimore City announced that residents in Federal Hill, Fells Point, Harbor East, Perkins Homes, and Little Italy are able to park their cars in their neighborhood City-owned parking facilities during the upcoming snow emergency. Parking is free in these garages effective from Sunday, January 5, 2025 at 7:00 PM until Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at 7:00 AM (this time may be extended based on conditions and on monthly contract parker obligations), and is available on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. Residents will be asked to provide proof of residency at the garages. Parking your cars in these garages will assist the City in its snow removal efforts. Do not park on the roof at these locations.

Scott issued an Executive Order declaring a State of Emergency in Baltimore City in response to severe winter weather expected across the region. The Executive Order mobilizes the City of Baltimore’s Emergency Operations Plan to deploy emergency resources and activates additional resources needed to tackle the emergency situation. This State of Emergency is in effect starting 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2025, and will remain in effect for forty-eight hours, subject to renewal or cancellation as conditions warrant.
