Sussex Academy Theatre students shined in a unique high school production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream Nov. 14-16.

The production followed several intertwined groups — a pair of young lovers, a band of mischievous fairies, and a troupe of amateur actors — who all wander into an enchanted forest one magical night.

This performance marked several firsts for Sussex Academy: its first Shakespearean production; the school’s first show directed by a guest director, Greg Carlisle; and its staging – the show was performed in the three-quarter round with the audience seated directly and intimately on the stage.

“We were so fortunate to have the likes of Mr. Greg Carlisle guide our students through their first Shakespearean production,” said SA Theatre Program director Erin Bobby. “The kids learned so much and really appreciated his leadership and enthusiasm.”

Sussex Academy is a tuition-free, public charter school in Georgetown, Del. Its mission is to foster academic achievement and social responsibility in a small school environment where students participate in a highly accelerated college preparatory program that prepares them for the technological and global mindedness needed for the 21st century and that instills ethical conduct and service to others in their day-to-day lives.
