Milford, DE. — Sussex County Habitat for Humanity celebrated a powerful milestone Tuesday morning with a triple home dedication in Milford.

The dedication marked the latest additions to the organization’s Milford Homeownership Project, a neighborhood revitalization initiative that will construct nine homes in a one-block radius. The event also brought together homeowners, family members, volunteers, Habitat staff, and community supporters to celebrate the journeys that led each family to homeownership.

“These homes represent far more than construction milestones,” Sussex County Habitat for Humanity CEO Kevin Gilmore said. “They reflect years of hard work by the homeowners, the dedication of volunteers, and the generosity of donors who believe everyone deserves a safe, affordable place to call home.”

The Milford Homeownership Project is a multi-phase initiative aimed at expanding access to affordable housing in Milford. Through this project, Sussex County Habitat for Humanity is building quality, energy-efficient homes for income-qualified families who are selected through an application process and contribute sweat equity hours and homeownership education before purchasing their homes with an affordable mortgage. This project serves as the third neighborhood revitalization initiative by the organization in the past five years with other sites in Georgetown and Laurel.

In addition to the newly dedicated homes, construction is ongoing at several other sites in Milford, with homes in various stages of development. The Milford Homeownership Project is scheduled to be complete by next summer.

Sussex County Habitat for Humanity is also actively building in other areas of the county, continuing its commitment to addressing the community’s growing need for safe, affordable housing.
