Sussex Technical High School opened for all 9th graders on August 23, 2024, and will open for all students on August 27, 2024.

Upon entering the campus, students noticed work-area fencing and large vehicles as site work for the new high school construction has begun. Due to the construction, Adult Education offices and classrooms have been relocated. Ravens football and field hockey will continue to be played on the Tech campus fields.  Boys’ and girls’ soccer will use Sandhill Fields, 20330 Sandhill Road, Georgetown, for practices and home competitions.  New traffic patterns and parking locations have been established.

This school year, Sussex Tech introduced a new Career Technical Education (CTE) program to the curriculum.  Architectural Engineering Technologies has been added and Sussex Tech now offers 19 CTE programs.

For the new school year, Sussex Tech has hired eight (8) new teachers, a school constable, two (2) paraprofessionals, two (2) child nutrition staff, a school psychologist, school social worker, and a school counselor.  “We are happy to begin the new school year with a talented group of new hires.  While the majority of our new hires were due to employee retirements, we are pleased to have a new group of professionals who bring excitement to enhance our school community “said Dr. Jason Peel, Director of Human Resources and Support Services.

In keeping the safety and security of students and staff a top priority, Sussex Tech  implemented the use of a weapons detection system this school year. All individuals entering school buildings, facilities, and premises may be subjected to screening.  In addition, Sussex Tech will be staffed with school constables, a school resource officer and a school safety monitor.

“We are excited to continue our tradition of excellence in education as we begin this new school year.  As construction on our new high school commences, we are prepared to meet the challenges which will arise. Our parents, guardians and community are encouraged to stay engaged with Sussex Tech and support our students as they work toward a successful future,” stated Dr. Kevin Carson, Superintendent.

Sussex Technical High School is a public school which prepares Sussex County, DE students for their future success in workforce environments, higher education, and military.
