Wilmington, Delaware – The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC) proudly announces its new board members: Mary Delgado, Lyn Henshaw, and Nicolle Surratte.

The coalition looks forward to welcoming the fresh ideas and new perspectives of these accomplished individuals.

Mary Delgado, a Certified Public Accountant and Dover resident brings many professional and volunteer experiences to the table as she enters her new role as a DBCC board member. With an understanding of the community in Kent County, she will be sure to look for opportunities to provide enriching and meaningful resources to those who need them most, just as she has done before in her volunteer roles with Girl Scouts of the USA and Caesar Rodney High School.

Lyn Henshaw is an accomplished executive with over 25 years of experience in fundraising, community engagement, and non-profit leadership. She has a proven track record of securing funding for important causes, such as the Newark Area Welfare Committee and the Las Americas ASPIRA Academy. Lyn is skilled at building relationships, developing strategic partnerships, and leading teams to achieve organizational goals.

Nicolle Surratte, an inspirational speaker, author and health advocate, is Founder of A Health Coach for Me. As a holistic health and stress coach for women, she focuses on transformational health changes – one step at a time. In June 2024, Nicolle will celebrate her 13th “cancer-versary.” Her “Pink Sea Journey” is chronicled in The Voice of Victory in the Valley: Diary of a Breast Cancer Thriver. Nicolle’s passion for helping others improve their health and enhance their quality of life is undeniable.

The new members, as well as the rest of the DBCC Board of Directors under the leadership of Board President Dr. Avani Virani, will continue to provide strong leadership and direction to expand the reach of the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition’s programs and services throughout the state of Delaware and the surrounding region.

Board President, Dr. Avani Virani, recently shared her vision for the organization by stating, “At DBCC, we are committed to improve and expand breast care access for all Delawareans. We realize that our community is constantly growing and changing. And with that, we need to change, adapt, and reinvent how we carry out our mission and vision. As the chair of the board of trustees, my goal is for us to be dynamic, strategic, visionary and agile. We are proud to be the most trusted breast cancer resource in Delaware, and we take that responsibility very seriously.”

About Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC) is a 501(c)(3) organization offering statewide programs and services. The mission of the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, Inc. is to empower its community by raising awareness of breast health issues and increasing access to care through outreach, education, and support services, to facilitate early detection and treatment of breast cancer.

Its vision is to create a caring community where barriers to breast cancer screenings are removed and all persons at risk served by DBCC have access to quality care and treatment. DBCC will ensure each individual diagnosed receives resources to become a thriving survivor, armed with the knowledge and support needed to conquer this disease.

Headquartered in Wilmington with offices in Kent and Sussex Counties, the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition’s programs reach diverse communities to deliver messages that address their unique concerns about breast cancer and early detection. Recognizing the barriers of language, culture, and economics, DBCC trains community advocates through their Peer Mentor Program, as well as works to help educate and encourage women and men to take responsibility for their health through breast health presentations and community health fairs. In addition, the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition helps those with low incomes and those with little or no insurance receive free or reduced-cost care.
