Cinco de Mayo celebration

Destiny Romano a 15 year old from Dover was crowned Miss Mexico Delaware during the May 6th First Annual Fiesta Cinco de Mayo in Wilmington.  Ailin Bustos  a 7 year old from Wilmington took the Little Miss Mexico Delaware crown!  Destiny and Ailin were surrounded by the other young girls who spent the last couple of months preparing for this grand occasion.  8 contestants competed in Talent, formal and personal presentations; the competition was very close as each girl poured her heart out in front of their many family, friends and community and the 4 VIP Judges Panel!   First, second and third place winners for Miss Mexico Delaware included Jenifer Flores 15 years old, Diana Sanroman 16 years old, and Fernanda Pacheco also 15 years old.  For Little Miss we had Julissa Damian 8 years old, Ashley Flores 7 years old and Emily Castaneda our youngest contestant only 6 years old!

Each of our girls was crowned as Princess Miss Mexico Delaware and will continue to meet monthly throughout the year.  This pageant is about cultivating and grooming our young girls by connecting them to programs, volunteer opportunities and internships that will enhance their potential and help them find their true passion and set their professional goals!  Organizations like One Village Alliance, and Girls Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay, HOLA from UD and Las Americas Aspira Academy volunteered to make this fiesta a real success!  Miss Mexico and Little Miss Mexico Delaware and their court will also be mentored by a team of women who each month will select a topic of focus for our girls.

The fiesta had lots of arts, crafts, toys, and the best taco and authentic Mexican food, while live bands, groups and individuals provided a full day of entertainment.  The chilly weather while challenging could not dampen the spirit of this live community celebration!  This event is part of The Peoples Festival Community Series, the Fiesta Cinco de Mayo Committee worked diligently to make it a reality. While Peoples Festival volunteers showed up to man the stations on Saturday, it was the Fiesta Committee that laid the foundation!  We thank our sponsors who stepped up to support our efforts, Downtown Visions, Colonial Parking, LaZMX, Taquitos de Puebla, Jorge Party Planners, Servicios Amaya, Ventas Latinas and others really supported our effort!  Our team was included 7 women Shelly Orozco, Yanet Cuadros Sanchez, Alba Salazar, Denize Leal, Yessenia Tolentino, Nayelly Sanchez-West, and Dulce Lopez  and a host of volunteers who joined forces with visionary and founder Genny Pitts to bring this community Celebration to Life!

We thank also Hoy en Delaware for the role they played in keeping the public informed and taking personal interest in our success!  The Community Series continues on June 9th with a Music & Art Festival at The Delaware Art Museum!
