GEORGETOWN, DEL. – (FEBURARY 2, 2026) La Red Health Center OBGYN Dr. James Rupp, MD., announced his retirement at the end of January after a long career dedicated to caring for women in Sussex County.
Rupp has cared for women in Sussex County for just over 40 years. He spent the last decade providing medical care to patients at La Red Health Center in Seaford.
Rupp moved to the Seaford area in 1984, after graduating from Thomas Jefferson Medical School in Philadelphia. He left the area briefly in 1986 to work at a healthcare system in Harrisburg, Pa. He moved back to the Seaford area two years later and built his practice and raised his family in the riverfront town.
Rupp ran his own practice for many years and was considering making a change. That is when Dr. Fabricio Alarcon, MD, Chief Medical Officer, at La Red Health Center asked Rupp to consider joining La Red.
“It was a good opportunity for me at the time,” Rupp said. “I have been very happy here.”
This past year, Rupp, after discussing with his family, made the difficult decision to retire.
“I am very grateful for the opportunity to have been a physician in this community,” Rupp said.
It also was a great opportunity for La Red Health Center to have Rupp at our Seaford practice for so long. Rupp has been well-liked by his patients and has provided excellent care to La Red’s patients for many years.
“We are extremely grateful to Dr. Rupp for all that he has done for La Red and our patients during his time at La Red,” said Rachel Hersh, La Red’s CEO. “We wish him well in his next chapter.
La Red Health Center’s Women’s Health program is available to patients, as La Red seeks to recruit a new OBGYN to its practice.
In his retirement, Rupp, who is also a musician, plans to play more with his band, spend time with his family and golf.
