On June 13, Separation Day Parade will be held in Historic New Castle at noon.

Separation Day is the annual celebration of Delaware’s independence from Pennsylvania and the British Crown.

2026 marks the 250th anniversary of arguably one of the longest running traditions in the state.

The community event is held annually in Historic New Castle.

June 12th night festivities included music, food and drink in the center of town.

Saturday kicks off with a Colonial-inspired parade.

Separation Day Parade progresses along Delaware Street and culminates at the review stand in front of the Courthouse.

This Colonial-inspired parade features re-enactors, bands, dance teams, classic cars, local sports teams and non-profits.

Former Eagles player Kevin Reilly is the Master of Ceremonies for this time-honored Colonial-themed parade.

Featuring Caesar Rodney—The 250 Ride, historic re-enactors, antique cars & fire engines, historic musical groups, dance teams, floats and more.

The middle of the day is filled with children’s rides, an Artisan & Vintage market, live music, beer garden and foods prepared by community groups.

The day culminates with fireworks over the Delaware River.

Ready to sing the Separation Day Song? Below the lyrics

SEPARATION DAY SONG
(to the tune of Sweet Caroline)

When it began
We know it was June 15th
We left Pennsylvania
We left the King
And did it in New Castle
Who’d’ve believed we’d start a State?
Del-DELAWARE
FOUNDED HERE, JUST FOR YOU, FOUNDED
HERE!
Separation Day
When we founded Delaware
right here right here right here
WE LEFT PA
And England and King George
but now we…
…are the 1st State
and it’s the best thing ever
We have cities and beaches
BRING WORDS WITH YOU TO THE PARADE TO
SING ALONG!

We have the river
that we own completely
from our banks to theirs
Del-Delaware
STARTED HERE, Just for us, Just for us!
Separation Day
When we founded Delaware
right here right here right here
WE LEFT PA
And England and King George
and today is…
Separation Day
When we founded Delaware
right here right here right here
Separation Day
And we did it right here
Separation Day
When we Founded Delaware (fades out…)
