On October 11, 2024, the Latin American Community Center (LACC) hosted a truly memorable evening honoring Maria Matos and her 30-year legacy of service and commitment to the Latino community. The celebration, titled “30 Years of Maria Matos,” was a heartfelt tribute to her dedication and achievements in advancing Latino voices and opportunities across Delaware. In a moving moment, Governor John Carney awarded Maria the Order of the First State, a prestigious recognition of her impactful contributions.
The night featured an awards ceremony that celebrated exemplary leaders and partners within the community:
- Volunteer of the Year: Cristina Brounce, for her dedicated efforts in uplifting Latino families.
- Community Champion: Del-One Federal Credit Union, for its advocacy and commitment to the community’s growth.
- Corporate Partner of the Year: Nemours Children’s Health, for steadfast support of LACC initiatives.
- Distinguished Hispanic Delawarean: Yvonne Deadwyler, honored for her inspiring leadership and courage.
