The Latin American Community Center is proud to announce the recipients of the 2024 Minerva Marrero Hispanic Scholarship Program. Now in its second year, the program, formerly known as the Hispanic Student Recognition Program (HSRP), will award $25,000 in scholarships to seven outstanding Hispanic high school seniors to support the students’ post-secondary education.

The LACC received over 50 applications from all three Delaware counties and 11 different school districts. A five-member external review committee selected the winners based on their academics, community service, personal statements, and interviews.

Congratulations to the 2024 award recipients:

•    Jackelyn Escobar – Sussex Central High School
•    Rocio Garduno Castandeda – Delcastle Technical High School
•    Yamileth Lopez Renoj – Sussex Central High School
•    Vivian Felipe Lucas – Indian River High School
•    Suzely Perez Gonzalez – Woodbridge High School
•    Maria Luisa Quinonez – Dover High School
•    Emily Rodriguez – Conrad Schools of Science

The program is named after Minerva Marrero, one of the original founders of HSRP, who was passionate about her Puerto Rican heritage and welcoming newcomers to Wilmington’s Latino community.

An award ceremony to celebrate these students and their families will be held in August.
