Wilmington, DE – The Latin American Community Center (LACC) will celebrate the proclamation of Hispanic Heritage Month with a ceremony on Friday, September 5, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. The event will take place at the corner of 4th and Harrison Streets, the future site of LACC’s new outdoor playground for children ages 5‑12.

The event marks the recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, held annually from September 15 to October 15, and honors the cultural, civic, and economic contributions of Delaware’s Latino communities.

Held in the heart of Wilmington’s Hilltop neighborhood, the annual proclamation ceremony has become a meaningful tradition for many in the community, offering a moment of pride and reflection amid ongoing social and political challenges facing Latino residents across the nation.

“At a time when many Latino families are navigating uncertainty—whether around immigration policy, access to healthcare, or economic opportunity—this proclamation is a powerful reminder that we belong, we contribute, and we matter,” said Maria Matos, President and CEO of the LACC. “This isn’t just symbolic—it’s a public recognition of our perseverance and unbreakable spirit.”

The ceremony will feature remarks and official tributes from invited elected officials. Community leaders and agency supporters are also expected to attend. The LACC, now in its 56th year, continues to be a trusted anchor for Latino Delawareans seeking education, stability, and opportunity.

“Delaware’s Latino community is vibrant and resilient, but resilience shouldn’t be the only story we tell,” added Matos. “This event is also about lifting up our joy, our heritage, and our right to thrive with dignity.”
