Update: Town of Georgetown Parking Restrictions Lifted: Town of Georgetown has lifted all parking restrictions along designated snow emergency routes. Residents and visitors are urged to use caution, as there may still be some slippery road conditions due to the cold temperatures.
SHELTER AND WARMING CENTERS UPDATE
Westover, MD – The emergency warming shelter at Washington Academy and High School will be closing at noon today, Tuesday February 24, 2026. For residents still in need of a warm place to go, Crisfield and Princess Anne libraries will be
available as warming centers until 6:45pm tonight. For residents of Crisfield, Deal Island, and Marion: your community fire departments will be available as warming centers. If you need transportation to a fire department, please call 410-651-0707.
Shelters closed, Recovery continues: The shelter at Dover High School closed at 11:30 a.m.and the shelter at Sussex Central Middle School in Georgetown closed at 1:30 p.m. today.
The Sussex County storm line will remain open at 302-856-7360.
The Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) is the lead state agency for coordination of comprehensive emergency preparedness, training, response, recovery, and mitigation services to save lives, protect Delaware’s economic base and reduce the impact of emergencies. CAESAR RODNEY SCHOOL DISTRICT: Caesar Rodney School District will be CLOSED on February 24, 2026, for students and 10-month staff. All other staff will get further instructions.
CAPE HENLOPEN SCHOOL DISTRICT: Due to the winter storm, Cape Henlopen School District will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday February 24th. Because of the widespread power outages, this will NOT be a remote learning day; school is closed. Again, there is no school tomorrow Tuesday, February 24th. Please be safe and stay warm.
CHRISTINA SCHOOL DISTRICT: This is a notice for Tuesday, February 24. Christina Schools and Offices will be open as usual on Tuesday, February 24. Families and staff, please check your email for additional information. Stay warm, stay safe, and we look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!
DELMAR SCHOOL DISTRICT: Due to inclement weather all Delmar Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday, February 24th.
LAKE FOREST SCHOOL DISTRICT: Due to inclement weather, all Lake Forest schools and offices will be closed on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
MILFORD SCHOOL DISTRICT: Due to ongoing travel difficulties across our area, Milford School District facilities will be closed for all students and non-essential employees tomorrow, February 24, 2026. Students are encouraged to begin asynchronous activities but are not required to do so. All non-essential employees should check their email for further instructions. Essential employees should report as directed.
RED CLAY SCHOOL DISTRICT: All Red Clay schools & offices will resume normal operations Tues, Feb. 24. Students arriving late will not be marked tardy; absences will be excused with a note from a parent or guardian.
Please allow extra travel time and use caution.
SMYRNA SCHOOL DISTRICT: Due to winter storm Hernando, level 3 driving restrictions, and a State of Emergency, on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, all Smyrna School District schools and offices will be closed. We hope that all of our families are staying safe and as warm with all of the power outages in our area!
Parents: We thank you for your patience and understanding during numerous winter weather challenges. We are in a State of Emergency, therefore no virtual learning is scheduled.
Staff: Please check your email for additional information from your principals and supervisors.
All essential 12-month personnel should await further direction from their respective supervisors.
SUSSEX ACADEMY OF ARTS AND SCIENCES: Due to extensive power outages across the county and the ongoing impact of the winter storm, tomorrow will be another traditional snow day. All Sussex Academy campuses will be closed on Tuesday, February 24.
SUSSEX TECHNICAL SCHOOL DISTRICT: Due to continued power outages and road conditions, Sussex Technical High School will be CLOSED on Tuesday, February 24th for students. We are hoping to return to school or operate remotely on Wednesday. Sussex Tech staff should check their school email for additional information.

BEEBE HEALTHCARE UPDATE: As of this announcement, Sussex County has been downgraded to a level 2 driving restriction. For tomorrow, the decision has been made to open Rehoboth, Millville, and Milton Walk-In Care Centers at 10 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Georgetown and Millsboro Walk-Ins will be closed.
BEEBE HEALTHCARE: latest updates for operations on Tuesday, February 24
All Primary and Specialty Care practices will remain closed and appointments will be moved to virtual where possible. Teams are still reviewing challenges around power and connectivity. All elective surgeries and procedures scheduled at Beebe Outpatient Surgery Center and the Specialty Surgical Hospital that weren’t canceled by patients have been moved the Lewes Campus. Patients are being contacted by care teams. Outpatient dialysis will be open tomorrow. Cape Pharmacy will open tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.We are working to open Walk-In Care Centers for normal or modified hours tomorrow and will offer both in person and virtual appointments. Another update will be sent later today once a final determination has been made.
Always Open: Beebe’s two emergency departments in Lewes and Millville are always open 24 hours a day to care for the community, as is the hospital and the Margaret H. Rollins Lewes Campus.

Important Community Reminder:
County and State Emergency Operations Centers have opened a public shelter at Sussex Central Middle School to support those who have lost power. Community members who are on oxygen and do not have power can go to the shelter. If you need transportation, you can call the number below. If you need to seek shelter during this time, it is important to remember to pack all medications you may need for several days. For non-emergency information, including sheltering information and assistance relocating, call the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center’s public storm line at 302-856-7360.
DELAWARE COURTS: Delaware Courts closed in Kent and Sussex Tuesday. At the direction of the of the Chief Justice, State of Delaware Court facilities in Kent and Sussex counties will be closed Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026, with the exception of Justice of the Peace Courts 7 (Dover) and 3 (Georgetown) that will open at 8 a.m.
Court facilities in New Castle County will be open as normal.
TOWN OF GEORGETOWN OFFICES: Town of Georgetown offices will be CLOSED on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, due to the winter storm that has affected our area.
SUSSEX COUNTY GOVERNMENT OFFICES: Be advised, Sussex County government offices will be CLOSED on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026, due to the winter storm that has affected our area. Additionally, the County Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday morning is postponed; items on the agenda will be rescheduled to a later date(s).
STATE OF DELAWARE OFFICES: On Tuesday, February 24, 2026, State of Delaware offices in Kent and Sussex Counties should plan to open at 10 a.m. Non-essential employees who live or work in Kent or Sussex Counties do not report until 10 a.m. Essential employees designated for severe weather are to report as scheduled. State of Delaware offices in New Castle County will operate on their regular schedule.
All driving restrictions have been lifted in New Castle County. Driving restrictions in Kent and Sussex Counties are under review and a determination on the restrictions will be made before 8 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. Please expect further communications tomorrow morning that could impact non-essential state employees who live or work in Kent or Sussex Counties.
WILMINGTON CITY OFFICES:
