The Selbyville Library is excited to announce that their Summer Reading Challenge launches on June 1st, for both children and adults. This year, the prizes for logging reading hours are bigger than ever. The idea is to get everyone reading a minimum of 10 hours this summer season. The contest is a terrific avenue to help avoid the “summer learning slump” for kids by engaging them in a contest, and adults will love the prizes, too.

Kelly Kline, Library Director for the Selbyville Library, is also eager to roll out the new online tracker, making this year’s contest easier for tech savvy readers. “We have an online tracker via Beanstack, that comes with an app for participants, which makes it simple to track reading hours.” Traditional paper tracking is also available for those without smartphone or Internet capabilities.

Readers this year will be treated to lots of great incentives for their literary efforts. Those who read the minimum of 10 hours will win free VIP access to Footloose at the Freeman Stage on August 24th. For kids who are doing the program, there is an extra boost of fun. If they reach their five hour reading mark by July 9th, they will be able to come and get on mobile gaming truck on July 18th from 1-3PM run by Anchors Aweigh!

If you and/or your little reader have a ravenous appetite for reading, log 20 hours for a chance to win a children’s Kindle or a Kindle Paperwhite! Increments of 10 hours over the 20 gives you more entries to win! Kline also wants to invite everyone to celebrate the start of summer with the Summer Reading Challenge Launch Party, taking place on June 14th from 4-6PM at the Selbyville Library. There will be refreshments, activities, and a special performance by Cartoonist, Paul Merklein at 5PM.

The Library is, of course, one of the community’s go-to places in the summer months where children and adults can come to do all sorts of fun and educational activities. Kline and her staff also serve a free lunch for all those 18 years and younger every day at 12PM beginning June 8th. Last year, over 350 lunches were served to children!

What will you discover this summer at the Selbyville Public Library? They have books to presentations to preschool reading hour, and so much more. Be sure to stop into the Selbyville Public Library, and sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge and grab a schedule of events. The Summer Reading Challenge begins June 1st and runs until August 11th. For more information visit  http://www.selbyvillelibrary.org or come on in to the library!
