(Georgetown, DE) Sussex Technical High School continues to offer a Work-Based Learning (WBL) opportunity to all eligible seniors. The WBL program is a joint venture between school and the business community which allows students to work a job, in alignment with their technical course of study, during regular school day hours. Both paid and unpaid opportunities are available. Participating students learn to develop productive relationships with the community businesses, and industry as well as becoming career ready.
While working in a student’s Career and Technical Field of Study has been practiced at Sussex Technical High School, it did not become a full-time program until 2019. The current program is considered an extension of career training and is part of the students experience and grade.
Sussex Technical High School has over 110 WBL partners employing students for the 2023-2024 school year.
Sussex Tech also has an advisory committee for each of its Career and Technical Education (CTE) technologies. An advisory committee is a group of local businesses, community professionals, parents, and administrators whose purpose is to support the CTE educators and students to ensure students are well prepared for the world of work.
In November, Sussex County Vocational Technical School District Administrators celebrated their WBL partners and Advisory Committee members during the district’s annual advisory meeting event.
Sussex Technical High School is a public school which prepares Sussex County, DE students for their future success in workforce environments, higher education, and military.
